my smoking AC, wft happend?
my smoking AC, wft happend?
i thought that the tech forum would be the best place for this...
here is my problem, maybe somebody had this happen to them before and know whats up with that.
on my way home today i entered the interstate and florred it. i had my ac offand when i turned it back on i had smoke coming through it. it only came through when i pushed the AC botton and no when only the fan was going.
when i got on the interstate i went all the way through second and then pretty far in 3rd as well. i know that something related to that caused the smoke, must be like that i think, but i have no real idea.
as i was driving i turned my AC off but from time to time i turned it on for a few secs to see if smoke comes out. it pretty much did, it was as if it collected somewhere and then came through when i turned it on, if i left it on for a minute it got less. but i kept my AC off most of the way. when i was almost home i turned the AC on again to see if the smoke was still there but there was none coming through.
i think this is messed up. does anybody have an idea whats hurt on my car?
ty, i appriciate yalls replies. thanks.

yeah it kinda smelled i would say. i dont think it was dust. after i drove a lil further i went of the interstate into a gas station and check my air filters, they seemed normal.
so i believe that it was smoke...any ideas whats up with this?

does our ac belt run off the same thing as our serpitine (sp?) belt? because it may just be friction building up from going really fast, then when you turn on the ac, it sucks it in.

Its happend to me a few times before, mostly when its been real humid outside and Ive turned my A/C on it looks like smoke coming from the vents. Everytime its happend it has really had a smell but it sure as hell freaked me out the first time it did it. Ive never had a problem because of this or anything but it is strange.
i might have to mention it to the hondafloks when im down there the next time, cuz this is the first time it has happened to me and im sure it aint supposed to, as long as i have my warranty they should be albe to take care of it anyways.
i just dont like that smoke **** in my car man, its seems no right.

Umm...Almost every car's air conditioner will emit that steam stuff. It usually happens when you have it on full blast and have the temp set to the coldest setting.
All you have to do is turn the temperture down. Make it a little warmer until the smoke looking stuff stops.
It is due to condensation or something or another. I just know it is completely normal. It has nothing to do with dust, pollen, or anything else..LOL

It's ok, don't panic.
The air outside your car is warm and somewhat humid. So is the air inside your car. When you turn on the AC the cold blast of air condenses the moisture in the air inside the vehicle. This is perfectly normal. No need to panic. You will notice after running your AC for a while that it goes away, this is due to the fact that the AC compresser has essentially dehumidified the air inside the car, filling the car with cooler dryer air. It's the same principle as your nose being dryer in the winter than in the summer. The warmer the air, usually the more humid, the dryer the air, the less humid. No need to worry unless you pass out driving down the road. But shouldn't be a problem.

thanks. You are seeing water, not smoke.
To get the effect run your AC on a "muggy" day full blast for 5 min with your windows rolled down, turn off the AC button and set the Recycle switch to off ( keep fan going about medium speed). Wait 1 min then turn on the AC button, you should see some good vapor comming out.

If the r-134a was leaking rapidly you'd know it because its under so much pressure that it would hiss like crazy or pop a line or both.
The fog you see coming out of the vents is normal, its the same fog effect you get when you pour warm Coca Cola over ice cubes.
happened in my old accord all the time; happens in my 2002 civ every now and then.......its nothing to be fearful of.........and it feels real good too

All right its nothing to worry about. Talked to the shop foreman today and told him about what happend and showed him this thread. He said nothing to worry about nothin is broken. Dont have lots of time to go into details about y now but its basically due to the coldness of the a/c and the humidity in the air.
