7440 - The final verdict
Hey guys
Ok, I cleared my headlights a while ago, and was OK with the stock bulbs. They looked alright for the time being, but I bought LED's to slam in.
There was a rumour going around that you can't put in 7440's without shaving a part of the bulb socket.
This rumour is NOT correct.
I bought the APC (a peice of crap) bulbs...both 7443 AND 7440's, just to test them out.
The 7443's wouldn't actually "signal" when I had the lights on! I guess the LED's in the rear with the LED's in the front was too much/little for the circuit to handle.
So, I put in the 7440's without modifying ANYTHING, and they work perfectly.
One small note: the position matters. Try them installed one way, and if it doesn't work, flip them over. This was the ONLY installation issue I had! Other than that, they work great!
The only bad part about having LED turn signals in the front and rear is that now I have the hyper blinker effect with the four ways as well as turn signals
The turn signals was no big news, but the four ways is a little annoying.
Just a heads up to those not sure about 7440...the APC bulbs have NO fitment issues AT ALL.
(LED's).
Good luck with your future bulb purchases.

If you did so, move the bulb around with the blinker on..... it might blink. Like....the metal connectors may not be touching enough.

The metal connectors were touching! I took them out quite a few times and made sure the metal was lining up. It was quite a frustrating process...
I tried wiggling, I also had switched them around...nothing worked
I can't believe the design of our cars...having to bend the fender back like that is really annoying.
The purpose of the post is to let people know that you do NOT need to modify the socket to get 7440's to fit, though. When I was researching, a lot of people told me that you needed to, and I just wanted to set the record straight.

But, just so people know, it does matter which 7440 bulbs you buy (ie - brand/supplier). Because, I just cleared my lights on Saturday and the 7440 bulbs I bought did not directly fit. I had to file down a small glass "nub" on the bottom part of the bulb opposite the metal connectors. It did fit well after that. Not to scare anyone, but I, personally, have tried 7440 bulbs and DID NEED to modify them slightly in order for them to fit correctly.
Just trying to help,
Joel

Good point!
I bought the APC bulbs. I'll post the part number later. They were relatively cheap ($10 each canadian). And they seem to have solid construction going for them.
