Reving up engine

I was just wondering when reving up your car can you guys rev it up to 6,500 rpm's because mine only goes up to 5,500 rpm's. i have an Lx auto with dc headers, downpipe then my cat. Should i get a high flow cat, because for some reason i feel like i'm getting to much backpressure. and the gases can't come out as fast? I don't know i need help thanks

azure is on a distinguished road
Hmm... I don't know if this is the same, but I went up to about 6500 rpm. I wasn't on neutral though. I was mad one day and I was at a stop sign. I floored it and the rpm rose up to about 6300 rpm [took a while]. I didn't want it to go to 6500 so I let go of the peddle. I have an LX auto too.

Don't worry guys, I didn't drive crazy after that. That was the only thing I did that day I was mad.

ex manual's redline at 6,7500 i think, and fuel cuts off at 7,000.
seems like i heard that auto's fuel cutoff is at a lower rpm, or sumthing.

Lol, royal purple, yeah buddy....

I redline a few times a day, but I drive cross freeway to 2 different job in houston and I live in katy.. lol I drive freeway about 30 some odd miles per day, just freeway, normal driving if i don't go anywhere but work, work and home.... but I redline at I guess it is 6, the car itself will go up to like 6.8 or 6.85 but really only in third gear it's like 6.75 or 6.8 in second, and like 6.7 or 6.75 in first, fourth redlines about 6.7 and 5th will top out at 134 so I can't go over maybe 5.5k or 6k, didn't watch the rpm becuase I didn't have a tach then..

I have a 2001 EX Auto and have been able to get it to 7000 when driving. If I put it in neutral it will go all the way to 7200.

Haha I have a dx and I can rev to 7200, you guys are doin something wrong. I've even driven LxR, Si (ex in the states), auto manual. All of em. And they all hit 7200. I once took my car to 180km/hr (112mph) in 4th gear. The thing was screaming. I eventually gave up because the fuel would note cut out. Even the lx autos will do 7200. Go rev the hell out of your car, you'll feel better once you do.

The manuals will do more than redline if you want them to  They will straightline if you push it too hard

There is a difference between stick and auto rev limiters in park and neutral, but when driving they should be closer to the same

you must be able to rev pass 5500rpm on Auto. I can get to redline on auto in 2nd easily without putting the auto shifter on second gear either. Just floor the sucker and it'll redline I guarantee you.

Unless you're not flooring.

alienmeatsack has a spectacular aura aboutalienmeatsack has a spectacular aura about
I've hit the rev limiter many times at the track... I try to avoid it but som etimes my shift points are funky due to how I hit the corner. I think if I had a little different gearing I'd be fine... my low end torque is non-existant and I end up on a lower gear to get power out of corners.

I'd like to see a mod that beeps at me when I'm near the revlimiter so I can shft, because when Im on the track I'm not checking the revs, I'm driving.

Get one of those aftermarket tachs w/ the shift light. You can program the RPM at which the light will come on, plus the tach is much bigger & you can place it where it will always be in your field of view.

I have an auto 2001 LX and with the pulleys added, I hit 6500 RPM and back off. I read an article in Honda Tunning that a guy drove his honda hard everyday and it is fine today with 140,000 miles on it. I don't think that will work for every honda out there, but every other time is ok to redline it-
