How can I get to this point?

I want to get my car up to around 160 ~ 170 horsepower. I decided that is my goal. Especially after getting my sound system where I want it, I definately feel the added weight and want to get a little more omph in my engine. What is the cheapest most effective way to get the horsepower up to around 160 (besides Nitrous because I don't want to do that). Any thoughts? (I tried to search but couldn't find what I was looking for so I hope this isn't a repost).

you can get that NA its just going to cost(alot)... this is best way imo...
bore the cyls to 1.8 use sleeves and pistons/rings from b18c5 , raise compression, port and polish head. get an injen or aem cold air, hp header with racing downpipe and custom 2.5 inch exhause with any aftermarket mufler. also for NA working on fuel system and investing in a jet chip would help. with all this you might get 150-160 but it costs just a bit less than turbo/swap options but you will get HUGE respect for having a wicked all motor 7thgen. also dont forget drivetrain. an act or similar clutch and lightened flywheel will put more of that crank hp to the floor as well as good sticky wide tires(i run 235/45ZR17s) also dont forget about weight reduct especialy unsprung weight(wheels and tires mostly get lightest as possible) this is important when your toting 50 or more pounds of sterio gear.

have fun

ps. im not very well versed on engine building im just going off logic and what others have done.

pss. dont be afraid of nitrous... anything under a 50 shot wet kit will almost do nothing to reduce the life of your engine

That's a lot of boring... you're looking at a 6mm overbore. I don't know if I'd want to be the first one to try that. You could port/polish and deck the head, shave the head gasket... that'll raise the compression. You could get the cam reground for higher lift (Crower will do it, but no one makes new ones). Replace the intake manifold, get a bigger throttle body, a new header and exhaust, I'm not sure what else. You could get 12.5:1 pistons from the Civic GX (natural gas version), but you'd probably have to run race gas.
I think Nitrous is the better way to get quick HP. All that stuff is gonna cost a lot more that it's worth... you might as well swap the engine for the cost of all that internal work. A wet 50 shot and cold range spark plugs is what... $700 or $800?

You're missing the whole point of being a car hobbyest. If we wanted that kinda of power to begin with, we wouldn't have bought civic's. We do the things we do to our cars, not only for the meager HP gains, but also for the enjoyment of completing the project.

how much are turbo kits running? And how much do they increase the horsepower? I haven't been reading performance stuff on this site for a while because I decided to focus on my stereo but now I've got extra money. I don't think I know enough to add a turbo on my own, I would probably have to find somebody to do the work. So how do I get one added, how much would it cost, and what are the gains? Thanks.

You could start by checking out the Forced Induction section of the forum. Currently, to my knowledge, there is not a company that makes a bolt on turbo kit for our cars. You have to custom make one. Check out this thread to answer your questions about gains and price.

It has been dynoed that an I/H/E will not give you d17 more than 120 whp. Boost would be the best way to get the horse power your looking for. If you search you can find ideas on different mods for various areas of your ride.

IMO drivers who are high drive safer than those that are dunk. Maybe if you smoked you would know what your missing out on

my opinion only:

get a intake and do custom exhaust from the cat back. MSD ignition + some good wires + the right plugs. Improve your fuel system then add a 50 or 80 shot. a 50 shot could be run on a stock car but personally i wouldn't feel comfortable running with any fewer mods than i listed above. Boost is god though. if you have cash get a custom turbo done. But i figure for 80hp on nitrous you could do it with very little labour and about $1000. A turbo would be alot more. and anyways if you just get the bottle you can always pull it and put it in a new car. a custom turbo wouldn't be as easy.

THAT BEING SAID I SAY USE LIQUID SHWARTZ!!! THE FORCE IS WITH YOU MY SON

Uh... apparently you've never opened your hood... we don't have spark plug wires. It's coil on plug ignition...
