would this cause a loss of HP?

I heard a whisteling noise coming from my engine, so i popped the hood and the rubber boot that connects the intake to the throttle body had loosened up and was leaking air out of it all over, and it wasnt sucking hardly any air in! would this cause a vaccum leak and make me lose hp and that is why my car was feeling slower? Cause when i tightened it up it felt a whole lot faster!

it probably came off cuz you didn't tighten enough during installation... or it just came loose through vibration... the engine does shake quite a bit, afterall.

now that I think about it.. u know how you have whistling noise with aftermarket intake? heh. ppl say its normal... I guess it is cuz I remember installing a simple SRI on someone's car once.. and I tighten everything up and it still made the whistling noise...

still, I wonder if there's some imperfection in this whole deal that we start thinking the whistling noise is normal, when the intake is just leaking air cuz it doesn't fit perfectly onto the throttle body..

Well im pretty sure a little whisteling noise is normal, but mine was extremely loud and sounded really bad. I think it was caused from the weather changing from very cold to really hot here in Va really quick, and it made the rubber to loosen. But im not really sure, but it was very loose. anyway it is all tightened as much as it can be and i still here some whisteling but it is more like normal and the car feels a whole lot better.
