OEM Rear Lip Install Question

I installed my OEM rear lip today, but I had one problem. The instructions tell you not to pull the backing from the adhesive tape on the top of lip off until you've got the lip completely on the car, to make sure it fits properly. It tells you to pull the tape while it's bolted on to the car. The step before tells you to tighten all the bolts. Well, as soon as the backing got around to the edges of the bumper I couldn't pull it anymore without breaking it. So, it broke off. Now, across the whole rear section of the bumper there is no adhesive tape holding it on the top. I managed to get the backing off the sides of the rear, but not the back of the rear because there's not enough room for the backing to move out. This means the rear is really on their tight, so I'm assuming not having the tape isn't going to matter too much. Give me your input on this? Do you think not having that tape there is going to affect it once the hot weather comes around? I mean, it's on there REALLY tight, I can't possible see it falling off, the bolts that hold it in on the sides and underneath hold it in really well. Let me know what you guys think? If I should take it off and make sure the whole tape is exposed or should I just leave it and not worry?

kinda what happend to me! when i first got it i couldn't wait to put it on so i installed it.............inthe middle off winter! anyways the adhesive tape never really got a chance to stick to the factory bumper. Also most 3 months later and i havent had any problems. Really i don't think that you have to worry about it "falling off" but you should worry about it "sagging" in the summer.

Yeah, I probably shouldn't have tried doing this in the extreme cold. Anyway, what do you mean by "sag"? I don't think the rear can "sag" because it has bolts underneath that would prevent that from happening. Anyway, the way I see it, if it starts to move I'll just take it off and expose the rest of the adhesive.

The only way to get all of the adhesive backing off is to pull it off from the ends on around past the corners, then bolt it on & remove the rest. But If you choose to leave it like it is you will be fine. It's definitely not going to fall off, unless you lose your whole rear bumper.

I went outside the next day to realize the lip was crooked. The right side was actually down a little too far. That's what happens you do this stuff at night using a flashlight. So i got under the car, removed the stepped bolts, and the 2 self tapping screws on the side that was sagging a bit. While aligning the lip I figured it would be a great opportunity to pull the rest of the backing off the adhesive strip. It took about 5 minutes not counting taking the wheel off. I advise any of you who haven't pulled the backing off the adhesive to do so. Not because it may fall off, but because it only takes about 5 minutes.
