A good controller like my APEXi V-AFC lets you fine tune you fuel curve and change the vtec engagement point. Really there is no since in changing the engagement point on our cars since it is allready aound 2,300 rpm's. Your better off to buy an APEXi AFC wich just changes the fuel curve.
well it does help alot! and our vtec does not kick in at 2300 rpms!!!! no way, doesnt kick in till 5500 rpms!! the vtec controller changes your engagment point, like when i had mine i had it engage at 5000 rpms, its really nice and u can feel it kick in! It pulls alot harder, and u control it when u disengage. mine was set at 4000 rpms. so when i went pass 5000 it was on and stayed on until i dropped below 4000 rpms. so when u race after u pass 5000 in first u have vtec on all the time! until u stop! its great and it was well worth the money. i got mine for 250 bucks. i recomend it, better then an intake, the best mod yet, it can supposably add up 20 hp maybe more. it took 4 tenths of my time!! but the prob is that it doesnt work for our cars right. when u start the motor on a cold start u cant go passed 4k! so thats a problom and could damage the engine. but i just talked to a shop owner and said they can install then just fine, im goin to do it real soon, ill let u know

Anyway, the V-AFC does NOT work with our part (well the vtec feature)... so everyone is getting S-AFC
I thought they had fixed the vtec part not working with the 7thgen. anyways you wouldn't want to mess with vtec engagment point anyways. You would want to take some fuel away from the car to get some more power though. That would be the biggest gain you could see from a v-afc on your car if all you have is i/h/e

If you do the DIY vtec LED, you will see that vtec DOES ingage at around 2300 rpm and about 15 to 20 mph.
vtec stays on if you are an agressive driver and shift above 3,00 rpm.
you can however upshift slowly before 3,000 rpm and see that vtec turns off, but then stays on after 63 mph.
There is no way you can "feel" vtec kick in on a SOHC car...
don't waste your money on a controller.

when i had the vtec controller working it would show a vti and vto signal! the vti signal would show stock vtec kick in after 5500 rpms. it would say no then after or at 5500 rpms it would say YES! the other signal showed the vafc was helping vtec, showed that it was working. U DONT HAVE VTEC ENGAGE AT 2300 RPMS!

The "first stage" does ingage at 2,300. Like kjgracing said, hook an LED up to your solinoid and it will open at 2,300 rpm's. And like PatrickB
said the biggest gains are made be taking some fuel away, not adding it.
I run -2% from 1,000 untill 6,000 where I have it set to +1% just to be safe. Because of our low engagement point there's no since in changing it, considdering the lowest the V-AFC gos is 3,100 rpm's. Also every time I did change mine it would run allright for a little while and then it would trip the CEL, and go into "limp mode" untill I turned the ignition on and off.
If your going to use my wide throttle setting Id recomend using atleast 89 octane fuel since a leaner mix is more likely to detonate. If your going to use my setting's and advance your timing a little then use 93 octane.

What are you talking about v-afc being a waste? And that whole thing about it not working for our cars?
1. It works on my car fine and my engine light never comes on anymore, even when it's cold outside.
2. I can rev over 4K on a cold start no problem, and even if it does do that, only sometimes, all you have to do is turn your car off then on again and it goes away.
3. If you set the lo-hi and hi-lo vtec engagement points correctly, YOU WILL feel AND hear the V-tec kick in a SOHC because it does it on mine. Yes, it actually pulls a lot faster than if you didn't have it installed.
4. If I need to make a video to show you and prove that it works, let me know...

i wanna see the video too, its funny how everybody is arguing this.... just considere whats given in this thread and sit down for a minute to think about it, if you dont come to a conclusion, buy it, test it, sell it, DONE.
