Paint thinner question

Will paint thinner harm plastic that much?

I haven't tried paint thinner, but lacquer thinner will sort of eat plastic. Well, it at least turns it dull. I used it to wash the paint off of my RS grille when I messed up painting it. It worked, but it left the RS grille in bad shape. It's dull and has some blotches. I'll scrub it clean with a plastic brush and then I'll paint the whole thing black before painting the part I want to paint in the body color of my car.

Anyone know if paint thinner is the same thing as lacquer thinner?

I used paint thinner to remove some paint when I was doing my trim pieces and with a little bit of washing there was noticeable damage to the plastic.

yeah, but would you be able to notice the damage if you repainted it?

I figured.

My friend messed up on his vents and he wanted to use paint thinner, told him to just sand and prime it/paint it a lot of times.

I screwed up on my spark plug cover, took my moms nail polish remover, took off everything then re-painted it
