Valve Cover painting
The DIY isn't working anymore on the Valve Cover (and fuse box) painting. What kind of paint do people use and is there anything you should look out for when you do paint it
I used duplicolor high temp paint. Looks good and haven't had any problems with it. Not sure what everyone else uses.
Edit: Just make sure you either sand it down first with some fine sand paper or use a primer.

take off the plastic cover that say honda or vtec.
assuming you have a a/m intake. take off the vacume hose off the valve cover.
disconnect the four plasma coil plugs and the little round nuts. and remove them.
after that take out the nuts holding down the plastic wireharness that goes to the coils.
remove the bolts holding the valve cover down. i think there are 2 longer ones and 3 shorter ones dont remember.
now pry up on the cover to remove it off the head. becareful not to damage the gasket, also it needs some tricky hand work to come out.
take the ac hose of its bracket for more clearance.
once its out lay it aside and cover the head with a towel so no **** flys in there.
pree the cover by degreasing it. make sure you to clean all the crap off it. then use something to rough the paint on the cover up a bit.and clean agian.
now tape off all holes. i used making tape taped over the holes then cut the tape with a razor to cut off excess. you dont have to do this but i dint want excess paint floating around in my engine.
now i primed it with 2 coats using a high temp paint allowing the primer to get tacky between coats. then 4 finishing coats of high tep paintusing the same process as the primer. all depends on what you want.
i just am lazy and didnt want to take it off agian to paint.
let it dry for a good 2-3 hours. i waited over nite.
besides that take off the take and then read this from the bottom up.
there a quick 5 min diy

If you're talking about the plastic engine cover, then paint it with whatever you want. It doesn't get hot enough to melt any paint. A few months, I drove it about 80 miles on the highway. Then, when I got home, I popped the hood and took the cover off. It was still icey cold. I ended up painting mine with enamel modelling paint. No problems so far. If you look for my Strut Tower Bar DIY in the suspension thread, you can see a pic of mine. I just painted mine with a brush. No primer or after coat...

Gizmo, i don't want to sound like an A$$ but you should learn the difference between the valve cover and the spark plug wire cover. Please specify exactly what you are talking about. IF it is the plastic piece that is the spark plug wire cover. that is should be painted with high temp primer, paint and clear coat, but you can get away with regular paint. the vavle cover needs to be painted in high temp paint or powdercoated.

Actually originally I meant the spark plug wire cover, but both would be nice cause at some point I would not mind painting both. I have seen them both painted and it can look really good if dont correctly.
