Crankcase breather & AEM CAI

Hola Mi Amigos,

I tossed on a crankcase breather & I have a AEM CAI.

Question to those who know, What did you use to cap the Hole in the CAI??

I know they pretty much dont do much, but I got one anyway.

If possible, could you post a pic of how yours is set up? I cut the hose from the CAI & fit it on the breather. I will post a pic in the morning of how I got mine on. Just want to make sure its on right.

TIA.

Late.

it might not look supernice, but you could just wrap it with electrical tape

That is what I did to get home.

But I do need to cap it or something. Maybe get another breather for the CAI??

getting a breather is pointless...

in fact if you go to get your smog check that wont pass emission since the PCV isn't connected to the intake... and er... you might have oil spit out from around the breather...

slapping the breather on the CAI is even more pointless...

I suggest going to the hardware store and find a plug.

what is the point of the aftermarket breather anyways?? for looks? and if oil would spill out of the aftermarket breather, then in stock form would oil go into the intake??

IDQcivic should not be trusted
I think the point is so that the CAI would only be getting cold air directly through the filter, and no air that leaves the crankcase. If you put a breather on the intake it would be getting hotter air closer to the engine. Honestly, I think it would be mostly for looks in my opinion. Maybe you could go to a hardware store and find some kind of rubber plug that would fit tightly in the intake hole. I tried a beather once, but couldn't get it to fit properly, so I just said forget it.

Like IDQcivic told...just try to find some kind of rubber plug that would fit tightly in the intake hole. I found some at an hardware store near my home...like 1$ or 2$ ... those are some rubber to put on the kitchen I think...and it look nice and clean!

Have a look at this pic ...

This is not the best quality pic to see the breather but...just to help you to see what I am talking about!!

yes the oil would run back into the intake. that is the main reason to get the breather to keep the oil out of the tb thus keepinig it cleaner. the other reason is because with the tube attaching the intake pipe to the valve cover it can create a small amount of pressure. eith the breather it lets everything breath freely.

Ok, rubber plug it is. My understanding of the breather is this:

With the normal set up (tube from valve cover to CAI), That the hot air from the engine would be getting sucked into the intake, thus not truly getting 100% cold air (like you get 100% anyway ). With the breather, you done have that hot air from the engine sucked in, blah blah.. Hell, I might just buy anothe rhose & put it the way it was. , I will try the plug first Though.

Here is a pic of what it looks like @ the moment

Your not going to notice any differenc if the breather is on or you
have the crankcase tube attatched to the intake.

Jaykuai can only hope to improve
isn't the pont of the breather to give a chance to the engine to "survive" when the CAI filter is underwater?

Nah, That is the by Pass valve.

Anyway, I just put everything back to how it was.

and capyoda was right. When I took it off, there was a bit of oil inside the breather. Eventually over time it probably would build up & leak out the filter.

you do know that not recirculating crank case fumes back into the throttlebody is illegal right?
also, i feel sorry for you on a hot day if your car fills with gas fumes.

when i bought a universal shift **** it came with different size rubber stoppers to go over the threads on top of the shifter lever. i used one of those rubber stoppers and it fit right over the hole on the intake pipe.

Ok guys... Here's the whole purpose behind the little tube that runs from the valve cover to the intake. The throttle body (the part your intake is attached to) is subjected to the harsh climate of moisture, warm and cold air as well as whatever dirt gets past the filter. The purpose of this little tube is actually a dual pupose.
1. To aid the the positive crankcase ventilation system (PCV)
2. The tube allows a small amout of oil to enter the throttle body thus lubricating it and preventing the
effects of the aforementioned harsh environment from seizing the the whole assembly.
In short... leave the tube hooked up. It's put there from the factory for a reason... and the manufacturer of the aftermarket put the fitting on thier product for the same reason.
Hope this helps you out a little!

Thanks for saving me from some masked flaming on the PCV hose issue and the long detailed explanation. YES! Leave it on for it serves a very serious purpose.
