Code # P1456.......
Hey everyone, just got back from autozone since my check engine light was on and they found after checking my ecu that the code # for the problem was P1456. Honda told me that this was the code for an evaporative leak, aka Gas cap loose. Well, my gas cap hasn't been loose since yesterday when I tightened it up. It was kind of loose before, because I could smell gas around it, but the light is still on even though the gas cap is tightened. Do I need to reset the ECU or do I need to take it to honda to see if something else is leaking? I went under my car and couldn't smell any gas fumes. Honda said they would charge $70 to check it out, and I personally don't want to spend all that money. I would really appreicate your help!
It's probably a keep alive code, where even if the problem is fixed it stays in memory until a dealership looks at it and removes it or you do it yourself. Simply removing the battery might not do it for you - you might need have autozone use their reader and delete it.
Re: Code # P1456.......
Not a big deal. A lot of the civics and CRVs have caps that go bad. Autozone or the like have replacements. It take 50 cranks for it to reset. If it doesn't then get it checked again. Disconnecting the battery doesn't always work. Outside temperature seems to be a cause as well because of expansion and contraction of either the plastic or the metal on the body. Either way, no big deal unless you're trying to get through instection that day! Just keep an eye in it and if you have a good mechanic, have them clear the code for you.
