pulleys
are there pulleys that are for like top speed and others for lower speeds liek accelerating...
a while ago i raced my buddy in his 250+ hp thunderbird.. i started at 2500 rpm and got him off the start and held in front 1 1\2 car length untill around 50 mph then he passed me when i got to 60 i droped it to 2 (auto) and caught up to half a car length and he one by half a car... so im wondering if pulleys would help at around 60 for a larger size pully or soemthing

If you bumped your stickers up to say 35, 40 you would probably have won. I suggest a "Type-R" sticker, if you had one (or more) you would have blown his doors off... Just a thought.

The smaller the pulley the faster it turns your accessories and the lighter it is. The bigger the pulley the slower it turns your accessories and the heavier it is. Assuming the same materials and what not. Plus a larger diameter pulley is harder to turn since the weight is concentrated more towards the egdes.
Now, the electrical system can only operate within certain tolerances. You use up a certain wattage when your car is just running with all of the accessories off. The larger the pulley the slower the alternator revolves and the slower this charges the batteries and the less power output your whole system has. Therefore there's an upper limit on how big a pulley can be.
There's also a lower limit. Small pullies will produce more wattage and they will rev faster, but the electrical system will be overcharged and you'll end up blowing some fuses if you apply too much wattage to certain accessories... There's also the issue of a smaller pulley spinning faster, so the belts also wear down more quickly (so do the pullies if they're made out of aluminum). Plus you have to have a higher tension on the belt to have it stay on under high rpm's.
Anyway, that's the theory of it all...

I am selling an AEM Pulley set, new in box and blue.
This replaces the powers steering as well as the alternater.
I don't believe that pulleys can help ina certain rpm.
I have always had the idea that pulleys help all through the powerband.
This makes sense because the pulleys are always rotating.
The aftermarket pullies are lighter and larger in diameter. This helps a ton because the engine will work less on other things and therefore saving energy for puttin ponies down ont he wheels.
The best pulley to replace is the crank, but this also reduces engine life.
The AEM pulleys replaces all but the crank, it comes with belts.
PM me if interested.
