Wow, I made one little post and it grew! For all of those doubting XP, it is much more stable than any of the 9X series platforms, but still can fall victim to flaws and incompatabilities with peripheral components. The whole arguement shouldn't be which OS is better, but which OS is better for what YOU want to do. I run XP Corp. version on a 233Mhz. Yeah I'm probably the only person majoring in Computer System Engineering that still has a 233MHz, but I can tell you I run the same OS as most everyone else and I have over 40 gigs of MP3'S on a slave drive that work just fine. Divx, and MPEGS can be slow depending on the media, but I could probably run DVD's on a 500MHz. If most people just want to roll around with an OS in their car, pick up something 500MHz or higher and just be aware of it's limitations. Your not going to plug a USB cable into your ECM and expect engine management. Completely different. It would be cool but ughhh..no. If you have any Alpine CVA, IVA, or any other monitor with RCA input then have at it and enjoy the same functions you have at home. Yeah I like XP. Would I put it in my car? Probably not, I'd use Linux Slackware. It might seem weird to use a whole new OS, but in my opinion it would operate better in the given conditions. As far as the kernel being a pain in the ***, yeah it is, but don't fool yourself into thinking XP is indestructible. BTW, as a computer tip on the side if your computer seems to run really slow, hit the Start button, type in MSCONFIG and hit enter. look for the screen that says "Startup" uncheck anything you don't need (pretty much everything) and restart. Watch your resources increase. These are the files always running in the backround that programs tell your computer to run when it starts. None of them are really needed, unless you have a special scroll mouse or internet keyboard. Give it a try. any ?'s email me at dallis_hughes@hotmail.com Dallis
