Vtec light install questions

ok, one last question...I didn't feel like tracking down all the parts and wasting lots of printer ink and crap to install a VTEC shift light so I just bought a kit for it from eBay...apparently that was my first mistake...the kit blew goat nuts...sigh

I got it all in and wired right (I think) but me no see um light at vtec time...I've floored it in 2nd gear with the engine nice and warm at 9:00 at night and no see um vtec all the way to redline...and I can still feel that the vtec is kicking in (much more forceful with the turbo )

anyway, I spliced into the green wire w/ yellow stripe at the ECU (haven't checked to see if the clip made it through the sheath or anything yet) and I grounded it to one of the bolts that hold the plastic of the dash (behind the cluster opening) to the surface-rusted dash mount bracket...

the light that came with the kit is some sort of big a$$ blue led light that I had to shave to fit into the extra socket on the cluster and both wires from it were black so I just chose one?? could I have the polarity reversed?? what's this I hear on some web sites about a resistor and stuff??

the blue cover that goes on the gauge cluster doesn't look to be super transparent either as I think this guy must be a retard or something...I dunno...sigh

I really want to get this working as my cluster has white needles and at night it's hard to tell my RPM's with the reverse glow indiglos I have and since I took the upper contrast bulbs out for added effect...this will act as my shift light as, with the turbo on, it revs up rather quickly in the higher rpm band....

Don't take this as a flame or anything...

But were you reluctant to buy one of them 3" marine tank blower "TURBOS" from eBay, aside from your "VTEC" light?

If I put up a hydraulics system labeled "for 2001 Civics", can you buy it from me please?

Moral of the story ~

Things that are really worth your $$ from eBay.com: Rims, Exhausts, and even those flip-flops kits

Things that are scams: a lot of so called electronics (w/out a manufacturer's name), ex. "20+ HP mod chip!", Tornado air, Homemade turbos

do what??

those plastic bilge fans are stupid...the vtec light will at least serve a purpose for me once I get it to work that is as I don't want a lot of flash up high on the dash in the way of a big a$$ shift light from autometer...I rather like people not knowing what I have underhood...and it's not a plastic turbo....dumbass

and yes, I took that as a flame and an insult thank you.

Oh mybad mybad gangsta. I didn't know it'd hurt anyone's feelins herr.

Hope this helps... It's homemade as well (guess you didn't need a special vtec light from ebay, just any sort of light or led sticking through a drilled hole on your dash somewhere)

Vtec Light Install

why would u want a VTEC light to act as a shift light?
I'm not sure about this, but isn't VTEC pointless if you're running a turbo?

EDIT: Having read your sig and other posts, i just know realized you don't drive a 7thgen. Most of us may not be able to help you with your vehicle-specific questions

I always give the forums here a chance as they're better than nothing to be quite honest and I've found in the past that most things are generally the same in application to the 7th gens vs. the 6th gens...

because when I'm getting on it with a turbo, I hate to say this but after about 3500 rpm's it spools/revs REALLY fast I'd say I have about a second of elapsed time between 4500 and redline...and since vtec kicks in for me at 4500 rpm and reaction time to a nice big blue light in my cluster would be around 1 second before I react and shift...I figure a vtec light would be a great poor man's hidden shift light...

now if you think about it that makes damn good since as I don't like redlining my car that much and this will definitely keep me off the rev-limiter...

but hey to each their own...I was just asking how to get this functional...you don't have to agree with why I want it just help me get it to work please...that's all I ask....

Yes you could have gotten the polarity wrong and burned up the diode.
I just used an LED wire and 680 ohm resistor.
Hook the "cathode" long end of LED to green wire with yello stripe on second module plug on the ECU. Hook the "anode" short end to 680 ohm resistor (green violet black gold) to ground anywhere on the cross bar
that holds up the glove box worked ofr me.

VTEC kicks in at 2500 rpms and about 15 mph.
Stays on if I drive agressive.
I can slowly upshift like grandma and VTEC turns off.
After 63mph, VTEC Stays on.

Good luck!

exactly what he said our v-tec kicks in at 2500 if driven agressively. but our cars have something like a 2 stage v-tec. first the one at 2500 and since i put in my V-AFC my second v-tec kicks in hard at 4800. oh yea if you don't have a V-AFC, please do not flame because you do not know what i am talking about. my V-afc has 4 gauges being measured all in numbers, they first one is the rpm, the second one it the Throtal(can't spell) response, and the third one is the VTo which measures the V-tec from 2500 on and the last is the VTi which measures the V-tec at 4800.
