need advice on my ignition setup
I was looking into getting the MSD SCI: http://www.import-performance-parts.com/MSD-SCI-Sport-Compact-Ignitions.htm /
Is this a good thing to get for our cars, is it worthwhile? I have PLatnium spark plugs and very shortly will have a CAI.
What else would I need to complete the ignition setup. WHere do I find "Plasma booster ignition coils"? And what the hell are they?
Is this a relatively easy DIY or should I have it done professionally. and would it need to be calibrated on a Dyno?
SO Many questions? ANd I will probably have more.
thanks in advance

we have a distributorless ignition system. you need to buy the msd DIS. that with ik20 densos is a nice setup n/a. plasma booster = msd dis with the extra $200 charge for its "supa nifty" led firing display.
edit: it is an easy diy and shouldnt need to be "dyno calibrated".

So all I need is the DIS $ 319 with ik20. What is ik20 densos... Spark plugs?
"plasma booster = msd dis with the extra $200 charge for its "supa nifty" led firing display. "
What's that mean in english

plasma booster costs way more than msd dis and id say the extra cost is because it has this led on the top of the coils that flashes when cylinder fires.

OK Just to make sure we are are on the same page. the PLasma and the DIS are the same thing and do the same thing. The difference in that the plasma cost more because of the pretty Light. If this is true I am going with MDS DIS.
Final question: Any hp Gain and how much.

hold on, i just visited the msd website. their dis system is for race use only and not legal on the streets due to no carb exemption.
plasma booster might actually be a better idea cause
1. i have no clue where you would mount the msd in the engine compartment
2. it might be a real bitch to install
however that being said, msd might be better cause its got soo many awesome features (like misshift rev protection).
it does this through not firing one of the cylinders if you hit the programmed rev limit in the msd box.

Yeah I have been readin up to. Where can I find the PLasma ingnition. The legality plays a huge role in my purchases. MD is strict.
Also, As I was reading, do I want to upgrade my coils or do the upgrades come with the ignition box*?
What exactly should I get? every part please any one.
BTW Thanks PwN3d, keep it coming.

im not sure bout msd, but i know plasma booster sends 4 new coils. could be possible that you splice into the ignition wires with the msd and on the other side output wires and plug them into the stock coils. oh yea and plasmasolutions sight here.
msd im assuming just sends the box
plasma booster should send 4 coils to replace the stock ones.

Do you really think you're going to notice $200+ dollars worth of performance increase? Doubtful!
Our cars are already super efficient as they have to be to maintain the ULEV rating. The only reason ignition might be sub-par is if you are running some form of forced induction or turbo set-up. I still think by throwing in a set of NGK Iridium IX or Denso Iridium you've made our ignition as powerful as it can possibly be in naturally aspirated form.

Thanks all I will look into it. i agree our stock ignitions are made for our stock setup. Ad Cams and a fuel exhuast setup, and so forth. you need more. it pure logic. i never said this would be the only thing I would do to my engine.
bUt hey thanks for responding. Shows that someone else cares.
I am going to go to the site you gave me and I will drill them.
Thanks for everything.
