Car keeps dying, looking for insight.
ok, so heres the deal. last week, i was out at my car just cleaning it out, when all of the sudden, my stereo cut out and the car just died. I took the key out restarted it, and it seemed fine, no big deal. then tonight, im heading home from dinner with my gf, when at a stoplight, my stereo cuts out again, i was like here we go again..i got the car started and got home, all on the highway, so i was ok. i back into my driveway, turn the car off, and just to check, i try to restart it....absolutely nothing, wouldnt even try to turn over. so i go in, get some jumper cables from the garage, pull my work van up next to it, and jump it, car starts no problem. I let it run for a while, pull out my volt meter, everything seems fine, nothing is drwaing alot of power, not the car itself not my stereo. I turn the car off, to make sure nothing is drawing power while the car is off to cause the battery draining, and everything is fine, nothing at all. so now im confused, just looking for some opinions other than my own. my two thoughts are that a)the battery has a bad cell in it, and thats why in losing power bc that cell is not recharging, or b)my alternator is messed up, bc its while the car is running it dies, so possibly the alternator is not recharging the battery as the car is running. im gonna take it tomorrow if i have time to ask someone, but just cusious what you guys thought.
i was goin to say the battery or the alternator but u said it first.
that used to happend on my old accord but it was the alternator wasnt tighten all the way and sliped and the belt got loose so the alternator wasnt event running
hope its one of those things and u can get it taken care of

Have you done any electrical work on the car yourself? (you say you have a volt gauge) Perhaps you are gournding out one of your mains and when that happens teh car dies out.

no, ive done no work to my car, i have a system in it, but everything on that is properly grounded and what not. the reason i have a volt meter is because i am an electrician. but with that said, it doesnt make me feel comfortable in being able to tell what is causing this.

I had / have a similar problem. All it is for me was that the positive terminal was not connecting right because of the power cable for my amps and neons. I would go to start the car and it would be dead, nothing would light up, ding, or make a move. I thought the car was screwed at first but then I got playing under the hood and came to find out that the terminal wasnt tight, I just need to get a battery terminal connector for the cables and I am set.
