Dummy asking warranty question
Am I totally dumb or is the local dealer? What my situation is, they told me that if I do any mods to the car other than rims, it'll void the warranty completely. Considering in 7 months I'm already at 12,000 I'm thinking that the warranty won't be round much longer anyway but come on, their ripping me off aren't they? I just wanted a second opinion cause I never underestimate my ability to be retarded.

That is totally false. The only way that your warranty can go void is if they can prove that your modification caused the problem with the car.

Cool, I thought so. Thx man!! So the next question I have then is, if I do any mods, do I have to take it to a different dealer to avoid hassle?

I wouldn't worry about that. My dealer knows about all of my mods. Everytime I go in there to get it serviced or oil changed or whatever they are always interested to see what new stuff has been done.
Here is another hint. Lets say that a piece of your aftermarket intake brakes off and gets stuff in the throttle body. Slap on your stock intake and take the car in. This way what they don't know will only help you and your warranty won't be voided.

welcome to the magnuson moss warranty act
Yup... federal law says they have to PROVE your aftermarket part was the direct cause of the failed part.
1.The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(C))
This federal law regulates warranties for the protection of consumers. The essence of the law concerning aftermarket auto parts is that a vehicle manufacturer may not condition a written or implied warranty on the consumers using parts or services which are identified by brand, trade, or corporate name (such as the vehicle maker's brand) unless the parts or service are provided free of charge. The law means that the use of an aftermarket part alone is not cause for denying the warranty. However, the law's protection does not extend to aftermarket parts in situations where such parts actually caused the damage being claimed under the warranty. Further, consumers are advised to be aware of any specific terms or conditions stated in the warranty which may result in its being voided. The law states in relevant part:
“No warrantor of a consumer product may condition his written or implied warranty of such product on the consumers using, in connection with such product, any article or service (other than article or service provided without charge under the terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade or corporate name...” (15 U.S.C. 2302(C)). I haven't checked with my dealer, but I think that mods only void the warrenty for the part in question. Adding an exhaust will void exhaust warrenty, adding intake will void intake warrenty. I talked to the service manager a few months back, and she said bolt-ons are okay, just don't do anything inside the engine (internals).
