Where'd you put the gauges?

Ok... I don't want the pillar thing, I think they get in the way. So where'd you guys put your gauges (air/fuel, temps, pressure, etc...) if you have them mounted somewhere on the dash? The only spot I can find to put them is in the panel where the power outlet is (have in dash CD changer, otherwise I'd shove them right under the HU), then just angle them up so I can see them... But I still have to look down. Is there anyplace to put them higher up and hopefully not have to drill/cut up the dash?
And while I've got a thread going...
For electronic gauges, all I need is the sending unit, the gauge itself, and wires between them right? Then I have to hook it up to power (obviously, but do I just have to hook up one piece to power and it runs the other or do both units have to be hooked into some kind of power source?)
