Whats behind this panel?? PICS

is there anything behind this panel? circled.

like, sound deadening? Because I just did my trunk, and it didn't reduce road noise much, or at all. lol. oh well, thats what u get for spending money on cheap stuff. live and learn.

I was wondering if there's any oem sound deadening behind that panel.. if so, I bet the shop that fixed my car never bothered to apply it back... they didn't bother for the trunk floor...

guess I'll spend some money on some fatmat if thats the case... still wondering if I should just live with the noise though. 5ft cost 25 bucks shipped... 25 ft cost 53 bucks shipped... I'm conflicted. heh. I think I'll buy the 25ft and sell the rest.

sheetmetal and panel clips..and 1 or 2 wiring bundles

if you want to kill road noise a sound deadener isn't the way to go.. a sound absorber or blocker is... My car after 2 full layers of Brown bread was quietter about 3.6db's.... after sticking L-block in the doors and firewall, using a hoodliner under the hood and on the roof (interior) it got anohter 3.4db's quietter

There's a DIY here for taking off the rear deck and that panel.

Its kinda frustrating to pull the whole panel apart. You are going to have to pull out your rear seats too. It took me a while to do mine. Good luck with yours.

1)Remove rear seat bottom with the single bolt just right of center where the backs and bottom meet.
2)Lower your seat backs and remove the bolts (2?) from the metal bracket on the passenger side seat near the bottom where the two backs meet. The bolts are hidden under the velcro flap.
3)Remove the single bolt that is holding the driver side seat in. (you will have to push the seat to the side then up and out to remove them)
4)Remove one of the bolts on the rod that holds your seat belt down to the floor. Loosen the other.
5) Look for the hidden screw that is behind the handle where the passenger sits. You will have to flip up the plastic cover.

I started from the front clostest to the door and gave a few little tugs 'till the snaps come off. The only thing behind there is a styrafoam block and plastic weather weather stripping. Oh yea, and have fun doing it. If you want to change out your rear speakers, now is your chance. It's only about 3 minutes more.

hmm.

mohawk, what kind of sound blockers should I look for then? remember when I email you those pics? because I need something there to kill road noise... I thought they were sound deadeners... whatever those black things were that came with the car.. I need them...

if fatmat, dynamat, etc. wont kill or decrease road noise.. then thats good, at least I dont have to invest money into that.
