How many point to raise insurance quotes?
Check with the company, most companies actually go by the violation that appears on your record, not the actual points associated with it. They have their own system for charging you according to what you did....

mine actually allowed my first offense (stop sign), but the rates went up when i had an accident 2 years and 8 months later (just 4 months before other infraction came off ). but i got a speeding ticket last week so i get to see how they wanna screw me now. mine jumped like $150 every 6 months the last time.

You don't get points for an accident........unless you were written a ticket by a cop of something. But none the less your insurance still might go up if you have enough accidents.

If yoru in an accident your rates will no doubt go up. Even if its no fault of your own. It happend to a friend of mine, and well even though I had an accident last year and it cost about $10,000 CDN to repair my car, my rates only went up about $150, not bad actually. But I dont think I can get a much higher premium, I am paying over $3000 CDN a year.

so a ticket equals a point? the officer said that he wasnt going to give me a ticket but my speeding violation will be recorded so the next cop who catches me can decide on my punishment. does that give me a point? by the way, thanks for the replies

The point system varies by area, but here's NYC / NY State as an example.
Blocking the box (intersection): 2 points
Backing up in a toll booth: 2 points
1-9 mph over the speed limit: 3 points
10-19 mph over the speed limit: 4 points
etc.
I'm sure you can either get all the point values from your DMV.

I have been in 1 accident (car totaled), reckless driving, and running a red light all totalling 7 points...in PA, I had to take a mandatory written test for over 6 points, passed the test and 2 points were removed automatically...my insurance has been pretty forgiving to me, hasn't really went up too much...I have Erie Ins

I pay $78 dollars a month for full-coverage with Colonial Penn Insurance. That's at the max coverage in all 3 areas as well.
You have to check with your insurance company specifically to find out how their system works. You also have to check with your state laws. I have one speeding ticket that I got a few months ago for 87/65. I went to court and got it reduced to 74/65. In NC you are allowed one speeding ticket w/o penalty if it is 9 or less over the limit. This is for a 3 year period of course.
Accidents can cause your insurance to go up. They base the amt of the increase on the amt of money they have to pay out. If it wasn't your fault and your insurance didn't have to pay out, your policy shouldn't increase.
Although, one of my best friends got his insurance doubled as a result of accidents. He was involved in like 3 accidents that weren't his fault. Bad luck I guess. Anyhow, they said he was a bad driver or something.
