Oil Numbers
5W-30...
What do the numbers mean?
I think it has something to do with the "weight" of the oil at 2 temperatures, but I'm not sure. Help me out... thanks

The viscosity grade (for example, 5W-30) tells you the oil's thickness, or viscosity. A thin oil has a lower number and flows more easily, while thick oils have a higher number and are more resistant to flow. Water has a very low viscosity -- it is thin and flows easily. Honey has a very high viscosity -- it is thick and gooey.

The most common oil is 10W-30, but 5W-30 is sold in stores as well. Usually you won't notice much of a difference if any at all between using 10W-30 & 5W-30. I have used both oils in my driving career & I have yet to notice a difference in performance. In a Civic, you'll do just as good with either oil, 10W-30 or 5W-30
Our cars are designed for 5W20 oil which is being made for Honda by Mobil oil. The dealer sells it in 1qt bottles although I have seen 5W20 in other brands at K-Mart and Wal-Mart. You get faster starts and cold lubrication from a lighter weight oil and also better hp & fuel economy. Just my $.02
