header heater shield
Is the header heater shield necessary? I installed a new header and now the heater shield won't fit. If it is necessary do they make a bigger shield. What would happen without one? I could use all the help. Thanks

The factory just puts that on there to cover up the ugly headers that are there already. It is also to keep you from touching the headers when they are hot. You would think this would be a no brainer. Get rid of it, new headers look better anyway.

lol. you guys are... sheesh.
only one person seems to know what the heatshield is for...
So you wont burn your hand??? To cover the ugly header? oh man.
a heatshield for the exhaust manifold's main function is to keep the heat in the header. why? the hoter the exhaust fumes are, the faster they exit the the exhaust chamber.
they place these through out the entire exhaust system...
header wrap does the same job, if not better.... but it does have a negative side to it. It decreases the lifespand of the header, due to the excessive heat.... this is probably why manufactures dont use it... plus its not as practical or cost efficient.
anyhow, thats that. if you want, consider the many diff. types of header wrap out there...
but yeah, it does keep the heat in the engine bay down.
