General Spoiler Info
Okay everyone i dont claim to be an expert on anything but i am looking for some helpful information concerning spoilers....
I konw that its no point in putting an active touring spoiler on a front wheel drive car, however would it give a bonus over just a regular urethene spoiler, i dont really care if its like a 1/2 percent thing i just want to know if there is some kind of bonus over just a spoiler that would be put up there for looks.
If someone knows it would be very helpful to explain to me how aerodynamics work on a car with 4-wheel,rear wheel, and front wheel drive in comparison to each other...
Thanks in advanced

Think about it this way. If a rear spoiler is good for traction for RWD cars. Why not put the same spoiler on the hood in front for the FWD cars.

Anyways, I have seen import FWD vehicles with functional spoilers. They are used in Autocross all of the time. So they must be some good.

I've done a little autocross and the fastest I've ever been is 40MPH. You only need the rear wheel traction when you're hitting the turns. But, when you're turning that fast, there's very little air actually moving parallel to your car. However, a spoiler will give you some extra downforce. Whether it's worth the extra weight, I don't know. But, I wouldn't think so. I suppose if your spoiler jutted out the side of your car, it would do a little more. But, I can't be sure. Personally, I have never driven autocross with a spoiler.
Instead of a spoiler in the front of a car, why not have a spoiler that lifts the back of the car??? That way, more weight is dropped on the front tires and the weight in the back is reduced. The air resistance would be the same as having your spoiler sloped downward. I don't think those generic ones would help too much anyway. You'd need a spoiler that was tuned to catch the air coming off the roof and force the rear end down. It takes more than just a bleacher suspended above your trunk to do it right. And in AutoX you probably wouldn't be going fast enough to need it anyway. You'll be better off spending the money trying to knock out as much understeer as you can.
