New car, how long till i can get on it
I just got a new 2k2 civic, the honda manual says to break in the car for 600 miles.. Anyone here get on their car before this...any premature problems? Ive managed to put about 400 and ive allready decided to get on it..cause i couldn't wait to drive like i should. :-P
But anyway anyone hit vtec before the 600 mile thing.

"hit vtec", hehe hitting vtec is like taking one step closer to the gods, when you hit vtec you are the man, not to mention vtec is one sexy b*t*h
In all honesty though, I thought vtec was like 2500 rpms and it starts.

i remember i hit vtec couple days after i got my car
i was wondering how i feel if i hit vtec, however i didn't feel anything at all not even sound.
i think i hit vtec couple more times til 3000 km
after 3000km i started feel the vtec and sound got louder.

4500rpm in an EX I think...3100rpm in an HX.
Best bet to break a car in right...vary the RPMs as much as possible...but not at 6000rpm, etc.
Do not drive your car hard during the break-in period (do you know what "break-in" means?). You can definitely wear the engine internals quicker that way and end up with a engine with a short life-span if you rev it too high or drive too fast (don't go over 80 MPH). You'll ruin your miles per gallon, PLUS if you don't break in your car properly, it may never perform at it's best - EVER! Don't fyck up a new car.
It's only 600 miles and you're almost done! Just be patient and not irresponsible because you'll only make car problems by yourself. Your car is a baby - you have to teach it to walk before it can run so calm down.
VTEC? I don't want to hurt your feelings but the Civic has the *worse* example of a performance oriented VTEC.
But if you care so much about "VTEC", why don't you break it in first.

I ripped my car off the lot also, my car runs amazing right now, nothing is wrong with it at all....i was hitting vtec when the car only had 25 km on it, it didnt even peel into 2nd gear it was so new... have fun with it who cares about all that...I leased my car, so maybe it will have a shorter lifespan then others that were babied for the first 3000 miles or whatever, but it will never effect me, coz i wont have the car anymore? thats why you lease a car IMO...

I just think this "hitting vtec" crap is funny....like it really feels like anything in our sad little SOHC cars. Don't get me wrong, I love my car, but lets be honest here folks, we're not talking about the DOHCs of yor. Hitting vtec is not next to godliness

I must be nuts... I drove it 2500 miles before I took it over 5K. But with the milage I put on it, it's the same month and a half that the 600 mile recommended period is. I figured that learning how to drive stick on it was enough punishment for those first few weeks.
