I don't know if this is true or not, but I heard something about them coming out w/ a carbon fiber trunk for the civic. My friend seen one for his 97 accord in an import tuner and he said it'd be pretty tight, Im thinking it might look rather ugly. I dont know, never seen one and I dont know if its worth paying money for. What's yalls thoughts?

The opening in the Jetta trunk lid is small enough as it is. The deck is only 14" deep, so the trunk opens up and forward to let you get stuff in there. it's not just shocks, there's actually a scissor mechanism too. I'll take a pic of my mom's when I get home. Putting the bars that go underneath would make it more of a pain than it already is to get stuff in there. A plain old suitcase is a pain to stuff in there, because the lip on the bottom of the opening is fairly high off the trunk floor. My golf bag will not fit across a Jetta/Golf trunk (I tried it in both), and it is part of the reason I didn't buy a VW (I play a few times a week, all summer... so yes, it was a big deal). The Jetta trunk is deep, but not wide or tall. They just tried to optimize what there was by moving the hardware out of the trunk. Rigging that up in the civic probably won't work, I don't think the drain rails around the trunk are deep enough or wide enough to support the lift framing, and you'd have to weld it all in there. Plus you'd have to stiffen the trunk, the Jetta lid is much heaftier than ours, and designed to rotate about the center of itself, rather than somewhere outside itself. If you want the trunk shocks, just follow Grey's DIY, I just don't think an Euro (most european car trunks open like this) trunk is the way to go.

FiberImages already makes a CF trunk for our cars. Unfortunately, it's only for coupes...so sedans like me are outta luck.
