awkward question...please help

it was my birthday just yesterday and my friend got me one of those neon shift *****
i figured itd be cool to put it in, but its only for manual and i got an auto
i know that theres shift ***** like the type r and the nokya ones where theres no button to push, and you just push down and shift
but does anybody know anyway for me to do that with this generic shift ****?
thanks

You can rig a manual **** on an auto shifter where it has gates. Jimmying a shift **** on an auto with a button is a little harder. I've seen it done where you build an assembly that fastens to the lever, and the **** and it has a spring in it. This way when you push on the ****, it depresses the spring and acts like a button. It shouldn't be too hard to design, building it would be the harder part. I'd invision it as a cylinder with a lip on the bottom to put the spring on and a stop to hold a 2nd piece that telescopes over it with threads or something to screw the **** onto. The spring would rest in between the 2 pieces and you could push down to get the button action. I can probably design something that would work, but getting it made would be the hard part. Perhaps someone who owns a machine shop or something could help you make it, but designing it should be easy if you know the dimensions of the lever and where the button is and how it is triggered. It's not a very easy job, but it can be done none the less.

Look at the attached image. I know the quality sucks, but you should get the idea. The scanner isn't working right, so I had to take a pic and it isn't working so well. Hopefully this helps. I think it can be done with a drill press and a few pieces of round stock. Just take your time and make sure it all works before you take everything apart.
