port and polish?!?
This allows for more efficient breathing within the engine. HP increases may be significant if done by a professional. Make sure to have it done by a professional, if there are any nicks remaining, detonation may occur. This may cause major problems problems in the head.

a high rev engine doesnt have much low end torque b/c the short push rods.prcivic was right about havin a larger profile cam and crank ...etc to use in conjucntion with a ported/polished head. to port /polish a head is to remove the metal in the intake/exhaust ports to make them breath more air in and out( a camshaft makes that determination).polishing the ports is makin the surface smooth for air flow, other factor is the ability of the ignition to provide the exact amount of fuel/sparks to burn in the combustion chambers,a honest machine shop owner will more likely to tell u not to waste the money b/c the head of the civic engine does not have much metal left to gain a significant amount of power.

Correction.. No performance shop or machin shop will actually polish the intake or exhaust ports.. an overly smooth sufrace actually increases air resistance.. this is why golf ***** have dimples..
the term port and polish has been around since the 50's when Heads were made of Cast iron and the intake ports and such were often pitted and needed to polished down even after increasing the bore..
A Proper headjob leaves the ports with a machined finish..if you ran your fingernails over it it would feel a little bumpy/scratchy...
the Proper terminology for this wpuld actually be port work..as there is no polishing involved..

Correction,
When they port the head they have to polish it down. It becomes very ruff and sharp edges that could cause uneven air flow or gas exhaust or intake air leaks. I had it done to my head and that id how they explained it to me. One of you were right. They said the isn't to much gain, but the most I would get with all other mods would be .01 to .04 on your quater slip. Later
