What is Hard Anodizing?

What is Hard Anodizing?
Anyone know the difference? It leaves a dark grey brownish coating, but I'm not sure what it does differently than clear or colored anodizing.

So now this is an FYI:
Hard anodizing adds teflon particles to the coating, thus making the part being anodized harder and abrasion resistant. It leaves a dark olive color.

Rep Power: 424 The Skunk2 Lower tie bar has the option of Hard anodized coating or clear anodized. I didn't know what Hard anodizing was. It really doesn't sound like such a bad thing for something under the car... especially for no more money than the clear one.
