Removing side air vents?

I have done a search and I know there are many posts about this....but are you guys sure you can just pull the side air vent trims out? I have tried using only my fingers and it's a b*tch!! I can't get the damn things to pop out easily like everyone says! I also tried using a flathead screwdriver but I'm afraid of damaging the dash. Is there any other easy way to remove the side air vent trims?? Has anyone got a pic of the the air vent trims once they are removed? I wanna see what they look like so I know what to expect

I'm pulling as hard as I can....it feels like I'm gonna pull the whole dash out. Maybe they have the side air vent trims differently here in Australia?

try the flathead again, but be very careful. just wedge it up under the vent before you pull it off.

If you take the vent insert (the part that moves) and pull the top of it too you and down it will pop out and that will take most of the pressure of the rest of the vent and you should be able to pull it right out.

Listen to Kristy, cause she knows, she helped me with mine...all you have to to do is wedge a small flathead in there just enuff to get it out, then pull it out along the edge with your fingers...

yup, a flathead will do it. it feels like you are going to break it the first time you do it. when I did mine, i was amazed at how easy it was. and how easy it is to take the vents apart once you get them out!

Take a thin rag or an old shirt and place it between the flathead and the vent to help keep from damaging it. Then, all you have to do is pop that sucker out. It's really simple after you do it the first time.

i used tiny jeweler screw drivers,,a rag might help too,,,just get it in,,twist the screw driver making sure not to damage nothing,,and once you get the top part out enough to grab it,,pop that bad boy out with your hands,,might have to tug a lil bit but itll com out

I used a rag and some plyers.. i put the rag over it and clamped down on the top non movable part of the plastic and yanked...
it came out... be careful though

EDIT: Actually now that we're on this topic i need to know which piece exactly i have to remove to get my center piece off.. the big piece around the head unit and air controls and stuff... i know its the part where the lighter is but is it the whole section of that part of the console or is it just the little flat pannel where the lighter is? eitherway i could never get it off.. HELP?

yeah its the whole part there around the cig lighter, do the same thing as the air vents, just pry at the two corners with a flathead and it should pop right out, then disconnect the cig lighter and youre all set

OK So I've managed to pull the side air vent trim off with a flathead screwdriver like everyone said. Thanks to everyone for your help.

I find that using a very wide flathead screwdriver works best because your get better leverage. And also, pry from the bottom of the air vent near one of the corners. And for those who haven't done it before....it's not just the air vent trim that comes out.....it's a whole massive plastic block! And the air vent trim is attached to this block with clips and one screw. You need to get the whole block out first and then unscrew the trim off.
