Synthetic 5W-??

Ok, I want to clear this up once in for all. I have a 2k1 civic ex auto and I am going to start changing my own oil and start using a full synthetic. I currently have 10500 miles on my car and I do kind of push my car hard. What can I say, I have a need for speed. Anyway, what full synthetic oil would be better for my engine, not forgeting that I do push my car hard? Would Amsoil 5W-20 Synthetic blend be best or Mobil 1 5W-30. If you have another brand that would be better, please tell me. I hear as well that the viscocity of the synthetic also plays a part in the way your engine performes. Is there a big difference when using either? I would really appreciate your input on helping me decide which full synthetic blend is best for my civic.

Some guys over at VWVortex were debating the same issue, and were discussing a comparison between Mobil 1 and Amsoil. According to laboratory data, Amsoil tends to be on the thicker side for its specified grade and Mobil 1 thinner. So the actual difference between Amsoil 5W20 and Mobil 1 5W30 is not as large as the 5Wxx indicates.

I use Mobil 1 5W30 for half a year and everything works great. Engine runs smooth, and cold starts smooth out faster. I chose Mobil 1 because it is more widely available than Amsoil.

Yea, I know what you mean. I can go to the local store and buy it, but one thing about mobil 1 synthetic that I have been curious about is that supersyn or whatever they call it, which is suposed to add extra protection compared to all the other synthetics. Does this really protect your engine more?

Well I put the Mobil 1 Synthetic in when I did my oil change a few weeks ago, and it's been doing pretty well. I haven't really had it in long enough to notice much difference, although I was told it should be a much better oil, that will last longer and help protect the engine, so ..
The car seems to run a bit smoother also, but I'd say give it a try and see for yourself.

I have 40k on my car, I have been using Mobil one for past 20k. Of cause, I changed my oil in every 5k with Mobil one filter. I recently change my ATF to Mobil one too and my car runs smoother than ever. Highly recommended

I currently use AMSOIL 5W-20 Synthetic. I spoke with the folks at Mobil and they said a 5W-20 Synthetic should be out in March.

go with mobil. I've been using it for a year in combination with a bosch filter and regularly drive 85mph+ for 2-3 hours at a time. It stays cleaner and everything work fine.
