My Engine Is Running Funny...

ok, heres the deal...
since i've installed my AEM Tru-Time Adjustable Cam Gear, my car has been acting a lil wierd. my car seems to want to idle rough and low. today i was sitting at a light, and my car started idling really rough, and as this was happening, i watched my TACH... it dropped all the way down to almost 400, then the car, by itself, revved up to 1100 or so. and then that was it. now im not sure if theres any correlation to the CamGear, but im gonna go ahead and ADVANCE my cam gear to about +2 or so and see wut happens. right now i have it set to about -1 or -2 on RETARD, so this may be the whole problem, but who knows, we'll see...
the other issue that is kinda boggling my mind is that around the same time i installed my cam gear, i put a lil bit of REDLINE OIL's "WATER WETTER" into my radiator, because it was a lil low from when i took off the radiator hose. anyhow... it seem to not make much of a difference at first, but just recently, say a week or so after, maybe longer, my "Engine Temperature" gauge has been sitting VERY VERY LOW...like at COLD almost all the time, except for when i drive my car around a lot. im not exactly sure why, but maybe that has something to do with it... or maybe its related to my cam gear somehow? anyone got any ideas?

I would most certainly say it was the cam gear, but I don't really know enough about cam gears to tell you how to correct it. Sorry [IMG]i/expressions/face-icon-small-frown.gif[/IMG]

my car does that and I dont have a cam gear. at stop lights my car starts to bog down then it shoots back up. other peeps had this probelm too they had honda mechs look at it and they cant find out what it is. id say take the cam gear off but i see you have many other mods that they could blame it on. i dunno man. maybe its not getting enough air (retard leaves exhaust valves open longer it think) so if you advance it should leave the intake valves open longer and give it more air. good luck bro.

my car did that when i first got my underdrive pullies, then i think the ecu learned or something cause a week later bam no more problem.

yes advance the gear and reset your ecu. maybe the cam gear is the key to fixing the stalling problem so many people have been having. Also Honda has put out the recall on the stalling problem so go to the honda website and sign up for owners link and see if your VIN is one of those in the recall. If you really have time on your hands then go to honda and get the replacement/recalled parts and install them yourself so they wont hassle you for the mods. everyone knows someone who can work on an engine so make some friends.

ok, i advanced my cam gear and.... yup, no more boggin problems. the cam gear is an odd thing. now that i've advanced it to 2, it seems to run like a kid on a sugar high. its really wierd. it revs up into the high RPMs much easier than when it was on retard... well, the CHECK ENGINE light is still on, so i think im gonna reset the ECU in the morning and see if that helps any. if anything, it will just get that damn light to go away.
and i stand corrected... i had previously said that the cam gear doesnt do much... well, yes and no. depending on where you have it set to, it does do something. now that i have it advanced at 2, it seems to rev harder, quicker.
tonite on my way, some chump in a mazda got up next to me and revved... boy did he make a mistake!! once we hit a long straight stretch, he revved his lil exhaust, and started to accelerate... i gave him a lil head start, maybe a car length, and then... "buh-bye!" i quickly caught him and passed him. i didnt do any of that gay EMERGENCY LITE FLASHING, but i slowed down so that he could see me, i turned towards him and gave him a BIG @SS GRIN... i couldnt help but to laugh a lil... just thought id share my story
