Driving without a air filter.
I went out to clean the filter from my Injen CAI today and once I got the bumper off I noticed that the filter wasn't on the pipe. so for the last 500 miles I have been driving with out a filter. I'm not sure how it came off, because when I put it on I made sure it was very tight. My question is, could the unfiltered air for the last 500 miles damage my engine? and do you think that caused my 1/4 time to gain .7-.8 of a sec? I used to do low 16's but since I put the filter on (or I thought it was on) it was high 16's to 17's.

hmm well u proly didnt do any damage to ur engine unless u were driving in dusty or dirty conditions or picked up debris from the road! hope ur engine is ok
!! but i dont think it wud have caused u to go slower cuz not having the filter on only gives u more air flow cuz there is absolutly no restriction, ur time difference must have been sumthing else! anything from the a/c being on to ur shifting, to weather conditions ie. wind!

how can the filter not be on the pipe but still inside ur bumper? maybe I'm not understanding right but if it was still partially on there then it wouldnt be as bad as if it was just totally off I assume... I dont know, but if it was all the way off, then yeah like they said, dusty places could have been bad... : (
personally I would use some sort of fuel injector cleaner (additives you put in your gas tank) and some sort of oil treatment to help in case any grime or dirt got into the engine...but you should be fine
Dont use fuel injector cleaner. Theres something for that which I forgot cuz Im dumb. Go to pop boys and ask them if they have some sort of engine cleaning solution, it come sin a red bottle. Then take apart ur throttle body take a clean towel and use the solution to wipe it inside and out. You'll be suprised to see some nasty things in there. You may think its jus 500 miles but dirty compartments dont jus "get cleaned" all of the sudden. The more u drive it the more ur hurting the engine...Oh to answer the question, Yes ur engine is hurting. Theres dust everywhere and especially on the roads and where ur intake was located, its not pretty.
