a/c problem

hey whats up with my a/c when i turn it on like on a hot day, of course in phoenix, well i rev the engine a bit and i hit this click like the a/c belt is turning on and my rpms drop real fast, dont understand why, or is this just normal with the a/c system, someone give me some feedback here, it would be greatly appreciated.

riiiiiiiight... um, the a/c runs off the enging. turning it on with the engine all reved up is like trying to jump onto a spinning merry-go-round. it doesn't work too well and will totaly f up your a/c. i had a 94 civic before and the a/c stopped working after about 2 months of my mom driving it because she didn't know that.

i wonder if breaking your a/c like that would be a warranty repair or not

On that note... I noticed that the AC in these vics are a little week. The fan that is. When I have it on Max (&recirc), it doesn't seem to blow all that hard. At least not as strongly as in my old corolla. Is it my imagination?

Yeah, you better be careful, as Honda A/C compressors are kinda fragile...and expensive. Just try to engage it while the engine is idling.

i know exactly what you're talking about. but everyone's right. turn it on when you are idling.

what's weird is when im at idle, and the ac is on, the rpm's will drop to literally about 100-150. its as if the car is choking. it almost stalls like if you stall it while its in gear.
anyone know what im talking about?

EDIT: hey Matador, where in phx do you live? what does your car look like, i might have seen you around.

yes, this is normal with the ac system. the "click" you hear is the a/c compressor turning on.

when i am at idle the a/c isn't that hard, but when i pass about 2,500 it gets stronger. probly cause the engin is givving it more air....

i've had the same deal happen. i was sitting idle at a light and i turned on the a/c and i thought my car died. i couldn't hear the engine and the tach needle was showing the same thing. then i tried to start it up again and realized it was still running... oops.
