Why is there an EX header on my LX ??
I was looking at this.
As some of you know, I'm from Europe and have an Civic LS, which basically is the US LX (no VTEC). As least that's what I've always thought. Through that post I've now learned that there's a good chance my LX has the EX header. I think. Let me show you. (BTW my engine code is D17A8)

The header heat-shield doesn't look anything like the US LX. And there's no way they fitted an EX heat shield over the LX header. I'm not sure where my cat is. I'll check that next time I'm near my car. For me this basically sucks, coz I wanted to get a cat-back exhaust, header etc from the US. Now I'm no longer 100% sure if they fit and if I should get stuff for the LX or EX. Honda, why ????
This might also be interesting for LX owners. The European LS has 120bhp instead of the LX (115bhp). There's a good chance the increase comes from the EX header. But you would have to get a EX cat/downpipe also and the price for an OEM header is probably higher then a good aftermarket LX header.
Comments on this are welcome. This is like the weirdest difference I've come across until now

Perhaps. Anyone here with an LX and an EX shield ? I think I'll take the shield off to be sure what kind of header I've got.
And there's one more thing. The LX header in the pics from the thread I posted, has a sensor right in the middle of the header just after the exhaust ports and one more senor right after the cat. On the EX there's no sensor in the header, only in the downpipe and one near the cat futher back (I think). I didn't see any sensor in my header, only 1 in the downpipe just like the EX.

Just look under your engine and check where the cat is. If the cat is further towards the front, you just have an ex heat shield. If your cat is back under the engine where it should be, you actually have ex headers.

You pretty much answered your own question. Your LS is a Civic LX with the EX's exhaust system. I wonder if you also have a rear sway bar? Do you? Anyway, good. Just buy any EX exhaust system and you should be all set. Hmm... Good to know that converting to an EX's exhaust system will give me at least a 5hp gain.

OKAY, since he wants to change the HEADER, why does he care what header he currently has on there, i mean, isnt he going to change it? and the header is bolted on to the engine. so now all he has to do is get the header he wants with the cat converter and the full piping and exhaust, and hes set. but i think he should have spend maybe the extra thousand dollars and got the ex
