glassing question????

arright, i've been scheming up some things that i am gonna attempt, an was just wondering your opinions on how it'll look, time to complete, difficulty, etc. arright, i am going to make some fiberglass fangs to put in my front lower grille on my body kit (ViS Octane) and i was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to the best methods to use, etc. and i was also gonna make a front splitter to put on there too, and was wondering where i might come across some carbonfiber sheets in order to coat it with. so, what you think?? how hard will these two parts be to fabricate and where can i buy the hard to find materials, (ie. carbonfiber sheeting etc.) i have already found some glass sheets and resin and are working on the shapes/molds, was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice as to how to fabricate these pieces. sorry for the long post. also, i know someone has used some carbonfiber sheeting to relocate the radio to the center console, so any help finding it would be great.

it's your ride,but from the sounds of it, I don't think it'll look too good. You should think about it a little harder, cause most likely, if you don't have any experience with fiberglass or carbon fiber, it will end up looking kinda ghetto, even if it's a good design and looks good in a drawing or something. But if you have time to kill give it a shot, you might surprise me??? Just don't ruin your bumper trying.

sounds kinda ugly and dumb, but if your car had a huge wing, a mean body kit, some 18's, body graphics,tinted windows, altezzas and projectors then it might look alright but if its just like stock civic with nothing but wheels or a kit then dont do it.

im gonna attempt it, but im gonna fabricate everything and see how it comes out before i put anything on, i helped a friend make some fangs already for his del sol which will be at nopi this year showing, drew up the design and helped him freeform his mold, but never actually did any glassing, but my pops is gonna help me, and he used to repair boats and do body work, so i think it'll come out alright. thanks for the feedback, i'll try and keep some updates as to how it goes, and try to post some pics before i actually put it on to see how you guys think it'll look.

its my center console of fibercarbon, and tho i have to agre with everyone here that it might come out less than goodlooking, i cant wait to see pics!

my reccommendation is to make it out of fiberglass first, then cover the top in fibercarbon. This will allow you to be as messy and imporfect as you want/dont want with teh mold, then when you have the perfect shape, you put yoru carbon layer on top

you say tomato, i say tamato.

fiberglass --> fibercarbon

carbonfiber --> glassfiber?

when I buy this stuff, I buy it as fibercarbon, the name just sticks. youll see me refer to it as both, tho.

thanks white rabbit. i was gonna make it out of glass first then gonna coat it in carbon fiber, but thanks for the advice. also, where can i come across some raw carbon fiber sheeting at? thanks also, as far as what everyone thinks it'll look like, i could care less, but the fangs arent gonna be all big and flashy like everyone is thinking, there just gonna be in the lowergrille, not exceeding the size of the opening, you probably wouldnt notice them if you werent looking for them. if you've ever saw them, you'd understand what i am talking about. but, i really dont care what anyone thinks about what i do or dont do to my car, cause thats just what it is, and what i like is all that really matters to me. i know i asked for opinions, so its kind of my fault that i got the negative feedback.

I get mine from tap plastics, they have an online store www.tapplastics.com

they have many choices of glasses, or fibercarbon or even fiberglass that is not cast and is weaved much the sam way as fibercabon.

they really are the same thing. only composition changes.

arright, i will, as of now though, i am still working on the rough sketches of what exactly i want it to look like, i haven't really decided what shape to go with, and some other factors. guess i'll eventually figure something out, and when i do, i'll try to post some pics of the finished product.

actually, whats kinda nice about glass is its better than wood. once you cut wood, you cant add wood.

you can cut glass, and add it too.

so if you know the GEBERAL shape you want, then you can just make it and test fit.

add some if its wrong shape or too small, or cut off and reglass the side. i like the system alot
