How do you take the stock tail lights off? The part of the light that is on the trunk is no problem to remove. My problem is the larger part that sits on the bumper. Any answers would be appreaciated. Thanks

Uhhh, first thing, the "rear taillights"? as opposed to the front tail lights? If you dont know what part of your car your working on, then maybe you should go have it done by someone who knows. Second, this has been brought up a bunch of times, use the friggin search button already. Sorry to be hatin but im sure that people postin like this is the reason that half the time the site loads poorly. All this massive p.w.'ing that could be answered in a matter of seconds...

Another guy that doesnt know what they are talking about? P.W.'ing usually means that you post without any useful information. If you "READ" my post assuming you actually understand when words are bunched togehter, I posted Useful Information. 1) Advised he have a professional do the work if hes not sure what hes doing, and 2) Advised him to use the search function to find an answer to his question rather then take up space.

The only P.W. i see around here is the one wasting space to try and back up another P.W. asking stupid questions.

Dude, OmegaBlue2k1 what's up man??? I had a question and I did a search? I found no useful information in my search. It is unclear to me if the rear bumper needs to be removed to take out the tail lights. I'm looking for answers and I still don't have a single decent answer! Thanks again for nothing Omega maybe you will have better answers next time! If any one else knows how to remove the stock tail lights it would be helpful!

Yes you have to remove the rear bumper. I saw it in a post a while ago. I have no idea how to remove it.

Ok, this has been posetd before but just to make things easy, let me just say ive been having a really rough week and shouldnt be takin things out on other people, im sorry if you really didnt find the answer your looking for. You do NOT need to remove the rear bumper to take off your "outer" tail light housings. The inners im assuming are no problem, just a few screws and they pop right off. The outers are a bit trickier. There are (3) three screws insode teh housing where you replace the bulbs, then amazingly the housing still wont remove. What you really need for this is a little room if your a bigger person or just have to lie really flat under teh back end of your car with a lamp and #2 long shaft phillips head screwdriver. If you shine the lamp up to teh underside of the tail lamp housings, you will see (2) more screws that hold it in place from teh bottom, just reach up there and use some good force to get decent torque on those screws and just remove them like usual. Remember upsidedown like that you still want to turn counterclockwise to loosen the screws. Some people get disoriented and forget which way is up. Once you have removed all teh screws, Its going to take a lot of playing around if you have an older model like 2k1s. Sont know about 2k2s. Assuming you have decent strength you should be able to pull them out without any more work, I personally just used a small dremel metal grinder and made the guide pin openings larger for easier fit. If this doesnt work for you then i dont know what else to tell you, cept search the threads again and use the "title or body" option for "sedan tail remove" for more help.

I did it to my sedan without removing my bumper. You gotta unscrew everything inside the trunk that seems to be attached to the lights then go under the car and use a flash light. Be ready to lose all the feeling in your arm because your gonna be unscrewing the screws for a while. There are a couple screws under the car that are attached to the light. After you get those the light should be very loose. I just said screw it and ripped it out which was very easy. Im not expecting to put my stock back in and also the stock lights were not damaged so i can put em back in if i feel like it. My new tail lights look great

Thanks Omega! I finally got my stock tail lights out so that I could put in my euro lights. It was a struggle at times but I managed to do it with out removing the bumper...and everytime I went to lay on the ground to deal with the screw and the bolts, I kept falling asleep. So don't change your tail lights at 11 at night....cause now it 2:15 in the morning...Time to get some sleep...And dream about civics!
