painting a body kit....
when painting a body kit, how does the shop match the paint? do they have OEM honda paint, or do they mix it to get the right color.
just curious!

actually a lot of shops have their own mixing booths where thye can make any color so they save money by not having to order your paint form honda or a paint store, they also have ways of "tinting" your paint to match it to the tee because some cars turn out lighter or darker or have mor emetal flake, there is absolutely no excuse for an imperfect paint match

If you plan on painting your Body kit, make sure you go to a really good body shop.
While its way more expensive, at least it will come out really clean and actually save you money in the long run. There is nothing worse then getting a Mickey Mouse type of job on your paint on a body kit.
There is one area you don't want to cut costs. Sure the paint alone will cost just as much or even more then how much you paid for the kit, but it is worth it.

The paint will cost somewhere between $200.00 - $300.00.
To have the body kit painted and such, should probaly cost around the same. Depending on the shop.
For the Kamanari Kit, I was quoted at 3 different body shops here in SoCal.
A local shop will do everything for $450.00 but I have seen some of their cars and its very low quality job.
A experienced shop (Body Pros) that does magazine cars and such quoted $650.00. High quality jobs.
JT Autobody, the shop that does LJ and other top show cars quoted $700.00. Another very high quality job.

yeah you can really expect to pay arounbd 600-700 bucks for a really nicely done paint job, now if that could includ emolding id be happy, i despise the look of a baody kt like kaminari which is just the skirts and its not molded into your car, the kaminari is my favorite -drool-
No one can order OEM paint becasue it doesnt exist....
When a bodyshop researches the colour code, they are told the composition. The only option they have is on brand...like dupont, etc.....
Thats why its crucial to have a good bodyshop do the work, its all about how accurately they can mix and spray the paint. With metalic and pearlized paints the spray angle is also important becasue it determines how the pearlizing and metallic particles land on the body. Even at a honda dealership, its the only way they can do it. They all make their own paint...if anyone told you its been ordered from honda, this misled you totally and you've been had...All i can say is find a good body shop!

exactly!!! HONDA DOES NOT SELL OEM PAINT!
Basically, go to a body shop that uses Dupont or PPG paint. Valspar is fine too. But stay away from Western and other cheaper companies. Even with Dupont and PPG there are different levels of paint, more expensive Dupont/PPG or less expensive ones...
Goto a good shop! Don't be cheap about your paint or watch it chip away!

I have a friend who paints big rigs and show tractors and some cars. he told me he would do it for 100 plus the cost of the paint. he does nice work and all his stuff looks real professional, but I think now I'll tactfully investigate his practices before I decide.
