welll...u need to swap out your transmission or u could jsut swap a new engine w/ manual transmission, for example, RSX-S engine brand new cost around $8000.00 (ClubRsx.com) and plus all the labor and stuff.....u r looking around $8200-8500
its somewhere around 4-5 grand to swap an auto to a manual. but once its done and u can sell your auto trans pretty much brand new, you can get mad cash for that so in the end you realistically spent about a grand.

Yea, if you already have the "new" auto civic and your really that set on gettin the manual, just take it back to the dealer explain your situation, and youll probably end up out the door even up. The manuals cost just about the same new as an new automatic that has been driven off the lot and brought back before a new model year comes in. You might spend a few bucks but its definitely going to be cheaper then botherin to screw up a perfectly good car cuz you want three pedals to play with...
Yeah I definately think you would be better off going down and trading it in for a manual in the long run. As they say girls drive autos but my sister has now had her stick for a couple years but I still would not trust her in my ride driving my car in a manual No one drives my ride but me

so i can trade it in even if its not fully paid for???
Yes, you can trade it not fully paid for.....
As for swapping:
No, "that is a terrible idea", "yes horrible"
It can be done at a cost of several thousand dollars (your going to need a new engine computer too for instance - perhaps even guage cluster).
Your warranty will be voided. You'll be upset. It probably wont be reliable... etc.
And you wont really get that much more out of it, it's not like the car will turn into some sort of rocket ship with a 5 speed.
If you have to row your own, go trade it - much more ecenomical.
too much hassle + money with that swap .. i'd say stick with it or just trade in for something better than a civic, but don't trade in for another civic.
Well if you do this, there may be problems...... I mean some people have problems after installing air intakes, or new rims, or springs....... you don't think you'll have problems after installing a new trans? I mean, you could do EVERYTHING right, but something is BOUND to go wrong when you make such a drastic change to your car...
just my $.02 . . . trade it

Hey, I was just in the same situation, bought an auto...thought i wouldn't mind auto...but i just couldn't stop thinking bout having stick, so i said f@#k-it and started to look into a 5-speed EX/SI new but couldn't afford the lost taxes bout 3 grand...so i looked for a used 2001 EX/SI (i have a LX auto) found one with 20k and traded for it, took a hit but better than to think about it for the remainder of 4 years financing...whew...can't wait.
