Yea, you will definately know it's there and so will everyone else. If you remove the resonator, people in China will hear ya too. Some guys like there exhaust loud enough to be heard on the other side of the planet though.

heh. Don't want that.
Now, I've heard people talking about getting the exhaust welded. Are they talking about welding the muffler to the piping or the whole thing to the car?

The whole thing to the car!
The exhaust system is suspended underneath the car by rubber hanger things. The exhaust has hangers sticking up off of it. You slide one end of the rubber thing onto that hanger. Then, there are little post that stick off from the underside of the car. The other end of the rubber thing slides on to that post. So, the system just bascially hangs there. People refer to welding the connections where the pipes join together. High quality systems use flanges and gaskets and the connections bolt together.

get the 2.25 piping and remove the resonator, sounds better, i did this to my car and have 2 exhaust, if its too loud just silence it with the silencer in the muffler if u have one
you will pass emissions and inspection get the resonator removed i got it removed it aint

My advise is go with a proven cat-back system. Why try to recreate the wheel. The companies that manufacture these systems have tons of engineering into them. I honestly don't believe that you or me or any local mufler shop is going to do a better job than what's already out there, unless they are REAL good at what they do, have a dyno and have done it before for a 2K1. But...if you do, remove the resonator, there is no problems with emissions and you get sound. Isn't that why we all change exhausts? Usually the more sound you have the better flow you get. There is a threshold you don't want to go over though. Too much flow is just as bad as not enough.
hey how did you get platinum 4s in your car
