Engine bay in LX sedan vs Coupe
hey,
i just spent like an hour looking through search results, but nothing helped. Im thinking of getting an intake, but dont know if theres any difference in the size of the engine bay for the coupe and the sedan. i have an LX and was wondering if the intakes for LXs will fit in either the coupe and the sedan. anyone know?
thanx in advance.

I have a LX with a AEM intake and the bay is the same just a differance between the intake between the Auto and Manual from what I am told .

tommyboy - what do you have? MT or AT? i have a manual. did you DYI the intake? im probably thinking the AEM CAI, but still dont know whether i want to deal with the filter installation. you think its worth it? im not doing the whole exhaust/header switching just yet (if ever), so its not like theres gonna be much of a HP gain either way. it sounds like were on the same page. as far as what we want to do with our cars . but honestly go for the AEM I have not regreted it at all you get more ponys (slightly lower gas mileage till you reset the the idle ) and you get alot of noise when the revs are up . but its a good noise. I have a 4 door MT lx to answer you first question and its not extreamly hard to install just time consuming if its your first one . the toughest part is postioning the clutch line

How would you go about resetting the idle? I'm getting myself an intake in the next few weeks, just curious how that works ..

tummyboy-- what do you mean positioning the clutch line? i read the DIY on it and dont remember anything about a clutch line in there. I was actually thinking about just putting the filter on the upper pipe and making it into a SRI, i dont know how comfortable i am with removing the bumper by myself so that the filter sits behind it. I know that theres a way to do it from the wheel well, but thats a whole other thing.
anyways, thanx for the input. what else are you planning on doing with the car?? PM me, we can share ideas.
to reset the idle you just have to disconnect the battery and after about 45 seconds reconnect and then start the engine then let it idle till the cooling fan kicks on about 10 min or so ( do not rev engine during this time )
Well I never removed my bumper cause it does not go into the fender like the previous years. the filter when mounted properly goes between the transmission and the cooling fans. I just put my filter on from under the car it took me about 2 hours to do the whole job but Iam a perfectionist when it comes to my car so it may actually talke less depending on your mechanical background

aaaah...what did you do to raise the car? i mean do you have stands or did you just climb under w/o lifting the car? it doesnt seem too hard. i mean im not a greasmonkey, but im pretty good with my hands, so 2 hours seems like a good amount. hehe
can you describe what in particular was tough about the clutch line?? no one else has mentioned anything about that...
also, if you used stands, where did you get them? theres no pep boys or nothing near me, you think they have them at a k-mart or something??

Well the factory intake is two boxes one being the silencer and the other being the container for the filter . when you remove the silencer box there is a bracket underneathe that holds up the silencer in place, this is replaced with a new bracket that comes with the CAI the AEM intake comes in two pieces one is about the length of a SRI the other is about 9 inches long the shorter piece attaches to the new bracket that I described earlier . then the filer attaches to the short piece putting it directly in front of your trans Now the clutch line part attachs to that bracket as the shorter tube but when I put mine on I had to custom bend a new bracker because the hole on the clutch line did not line up with the bracket . Now the car is drivable if you dont attach this but you will get a clicking noise and a little kick in the clutch pedal when you let the clutch out so make sure it is in the right spot and tightened down The only other thing that is strange but but normal is that you have to pull out the sensor that turns on your backup lights when doing this CAI because there are two bolts you need to get out but the sensor is in the way . this is not hard just becareful not to drop the sensor and to make sure the hole where the sensor goes is cover during the time you have it out
