interchangeable exhaust??? possible
Ok this is an interesting question....why couldn't a person interchange the complete exhaust between and LX and and EX??? I mean switch the headers and all the piping.. Then that would make it possible to use EX aftermarket headers on an LX. For all you tech ppl would this be possible? It sounds like it could be.....

i don't see why it wouldn't work. the only thing that comes to mind is emissions and the hangers for the exhaust might be different. but if you got the HP racing header, which includes high flow cat, and a cat back of your choice, it sounds feasible. keep an eye on emissions though.
Only difference is the harnesses for the O2 sensors. They are in different places. Past that, it should be smooth sailing. But you have to replace the entire exhaust system, that is the drag. Or you could get custom and fabricate.

Yea I was thinkin it would be smooth too....but how would emissions change? Is the Ex a non- ULEV?? Also the hangers should be the same shouldn't they?
Basically you could go to the junk yard and get the system off an EX....O2 sensors and all. Any other input and info is appreciated....

The exhaust hangers and all that should be the same, I don't see any reason why you couldn't get the entire exhaust manifold back EX system and put it on an LX. EX is ULEV rated as well, and VTEC really shouldn't matter in this case. You might have to run some new wires for the O2 sensors to match up with the different locations on the EX (pre and post cat), but that's all I can think you'd have to do. It might not be the best idea however to use the EX stock system, as the ECU for each trim level was tuned for the particular exhaust systems installed on the car at the factory. If you were going to put the EX HP header/cat combo and an EX aftermarket exhaust, that would be a good idea, but I wouldn't recommend putting on any part of the stock EX exhaust.

Well see basically you shouldn't need the full exhaust. I am just talking so you can use the aftermarket parts. I already cat-back. So couldn't a person just get the cat off an EX then get some EX aftermarket headers and bolt on there. Along with the cat just get the O2 sensors off the EX. So all you would have would be HP or DC headers since they use the EX stock cat, right? And your choice of catback exhaust......

HP does NOT use the stock cat, it comes with a downpipe with a high flow cat built in, that's why i had suggested it. DC does use the stock cat cause it's just a shorty header. if you really wanted an EX downpipe to use with the DC header, go for it, hell i'll even sell you my combo if you buy me a new HP header.
