Installing OEM Spoiler Question
Ok, I got my OEM spoiler in the mail and it calls for you to drill holes 3mm, 6mm, 8mm, and then a 10mm. Well the one problem is NO one around me (including Loews and Home Depot) does not sell metric drills. My question is if its OK to use American (I dunno what else to call them) drill bits...I have the conversion sheets and its very very close. I'm wondering if anyone else had this same problem. My local Honda dealership won't drill them for me, despite me bringing the car in for service next week...losers . I could bring it to a body shop if its a big deal, but the difference is very small...anyways, if you have experience with this, please reply.
Thanks

No experience personally, but I noticed that when I was installing my front grill molding, it said to use metric stuff. I just played around until I could find one that could unscrew the bolts.
Keep in mind that water may seep in if the holes are too big or if they're too small the spoiler won't fit. I'm sure some others with spoilers will chime in.
Good luck either way.

I had the same problem. The only thing that really matters is the end result. I just did the conversion and sorta matched up the American bits too. (I forget what their called too ) Just start off real small and be sure to center it on the existing bumps of the trunk, so the bigger bits dont slide off center. Someone posted a tip here before. Use some packing tape (the yellowish-white kind) on the outside of the trunk so the metal shavings dont scratch up the paint. Change the tape after each hole. And also have a towel underneath to catch the shavings as well.
Something that I found out. You do need to go all the way to 10mm to fit the wire into the trunk, but I only went to 8mm (I think) for the 4 screw holes. (Compare the drill bit with the screw) Just went big enough to barely fit the screws in and used a file to give it just a little more space. Going all the way to 10mm seemed like it would leave too much room for the spoiler to move. Lemme know if you have any problems. I just put my spoiler in a couple weeks ago.

I installed my oem spoiler. The different size bits are used to gradually open the whole instead of using one big one. I think it helps to keep it more centered and the edges from getting so jagged. I think I started small, went to middle size, and then the biggest. I didn't use anything metric. Just start with something small and then go big. Just don't open the hole up to much. Also, you do know that the holes are marked by demples straight from the factory right?

Ooops...I feel like a post ***** but I am at school and don't won't my pass in the cache.
Anyhow, use a center punch before you drill. It will help insure you get the hole centered properly.

You could always try an industrial supply catalog like www.grainger.com

How much are they charging you to install the spoiler? It is so easy to do. The holes are already marked from the factory. The hardest part is the wiring and those of us who have already done it can tell which wire to use. Whatever though....it is easier just to pay someone else.
well i just did mine oem spoiler today and ran into the same problem, luckily my buddy worked at pep boys and solved the problem cause he knew the bits they sell there had both measurments, so i found ones that were 3 mm , 6mm, 8mm, and 10mm and just copied down the "standard" sizes in inches and used the ones i owned...
Dude, the instructions suck, dont bother with all those bits...drilla small pilot hole about the size of a pen tip and then drill about a 3/8 hole over that and ur set lol.... i think that the instruction over complicate the process i did mine all myself pain and install it cost me little less than 200 dollars and it works and looks perfect except where i didnt finish buffing it enough. and the install is cake... lol my g/f actually did the hardest part by helping me run the LED wire through the tiny hole in the spoiler
