tire ? for the experts

Have a 2001 LX sedan with Honda 15" steel wheels. Need to know if a 205/55-15 tire would fit o.k.? Want to boost handling performance, but can't break the bank story. Thanks, and anybody else in the same boat doing anything different with their stock wheels.

I am racing solo2 on my 17s i have now. I am wanting to put a wider tire on my stock rims and swap them out to race on. I was going to post the same question.

The best thing to do in this case is to contact a tire shop. They have all the formulas for figuring out tire size vs. the actual car itself. The tire manufacturers provide this info to them.
I still have my stock 15's in case I have to drive the car this winter but I don't plan on it.
That tire size may be okay though, maybe better with a 16" wheel buut I understand the $$$ thing.
I was gonna go with a 205 45 16 on my new wheels but they recommended I go with 205 50 16 to stay closer to the original diameter. They look sweet and with the 1'75" drop they work better too.

It will probably fit, but it might look like crap w/ the width of the tire bubbling out over the rim. My dad put some 275 on his stealth stock 245 series tire, and it did look a little wierd.

I have the same size tires on my car that you are talking about and they fit fine. I have aftermarket rims so it might make a little difference on the bubbling out thing

I would stick with 195's, the stock steelies are narrower than any 15" alloy you'll find, and a wider tire on a narrow rim will roll under in turns and track horribly. If you get 195/50's or 55's you'll also have a huge gearing advantage from stock tires not to mention the wider tires.
