Sway Bar installation help
so I got my rsx's sway bar in the mail a few days ago... and just got the chances to get under the car today to install it... (the store didn't ship me the bolts and nuts that I ordered, but I guess I can just use the ones I got already.)
anyway, the problem is that when I try to remove the nut holding the bar to the endlink, it doesn't budge.
when I turn the nut, the entire bolt turns along with it. -_- I was at first able to turn it a bit, but now its stuck and the whole bolt turns along with the nut... I tried to use a monkey wrench with something else holding the bolt in place as I turn the bolt, but no go there either...
it really should have been an easy bolt on, but the endlink nut/bolt is giving me major problems. blah.
anyone that installed a sway bar can give me some advice on the tools you guys used? did your nut turned along with your bolt too? if not... then I guess I'm getting bad luck?
any ideas on removing the nut? tools? blah. a less-than-one-hour job is taking too long.

I even asked something along the lines of what tools to use... since I dont know.
I have socket wrenches and it doesn't work in this application...
so, what are the RIGHT TOOLS, BLUENVY01?
thanks AlexLx, no biggie.
anyone else with some info?
kinda sad how almost any thread can be flamed these days.

hehe.. well I can finally help one that flamed ME!!... a while back.
Isn't life ironic. Anyways, down to the point as i'm not trying to be friendly.
If WD-40 dont work nore any other bolt/screw/nut loosener.. then you're gonna need a nut cutter, thats right a nut cutter.. then just get a new stainless steel replacement nut at a local hardware store, make sure to get same threading or you could be upset for hours by forcing incorrect threads to bond together. Anyways, the nut-cuter is a simple small mechanism found at hardware stores aswell... what it does is that it grasps the nut very snugly... and kinda cuts through it with pressure and breaks it into two sections. Now that you got that stubborn nut off the bolt I suggest you re-thread the bolt that had the stubborn nut... and to seal tightly use lock-thread.

heh. weird. one surprise after another.
I dont remember flaming you.. I hardly flame anyone for anything... so if I did that to you.. I was either joking, or it was something minor or not that important... but flaming isn't nice so I'm sorry anyway.
thanks a lot for the info though.
one thing though, I'm not sure if I can replace the bolt... its stuck on the endlink... seems like it anyway. so do I risk cutting the bolt too with the nut cutter?

so yeah, I got this 10 bucks nut splitter at Pep Boys... and it didn't work too well... ARGH.
I'm going to return it and try a different one I saw online...
heh. so much for the easy bolt on... blah.
I emailed the other two guys that I think did it already, but no respond yet...
anyone else installed an RSX sway bar with some info on how to remove the nut connecting the bar to the endlink?
even if I remove the nut, putting it back in will be an issue too...
this really shouldn't be too difficult, I dont want to resort to go to some auto body shop just to have them remove a nut for me...

ok ill make this really simple take a wrinch put the circle side over the nut. now take a socket wrench. with the right siz socket. and un screw the bolt with one hand and hold the wrench with the other.

see there's the problem. I can't do that. there's no end to the bolt. its connected to the endlink, and its designed to turn I guess. so there's no way for me to hold the end of the bolt and turn the nut with a wrench..
I can get a link to a diagram pic if you want to see what I'm talking about.
I might resort to buying a HELMs manual just for this. lol. I was gonna get one eventually anyway. Not too many people on the site has it I think.

I had the same problem with my left side on the stock sway bar when removing it. Only way I was able to get the left bolt off, was to get some needle nose vise grip pliers, and grip onto the "collar" that sits between the seal and the sway bar itself. I don't have a digital camera to take a pic, but, I'm sure you have been messing with that bolt for a while. It goes, from the end to the middle, the bolt itself, that you can see some threads on, the nut on the bolt, the end of the sway bar, then collar on the bolt, then the housing that the other end of the bolt sits in. if you can get something to clamp onto the collar, then you should be able to remove the bolt.
I think the reason the bolt moved on mine is cause it was no longer under any pressure from the sway bar. I took off the right side end bolt first, then the right side mount/bushing, with no problems. When I did the left side, I took the left side mount/bushing off, then the left end bolt, and thats when it started spinning on me. May be you could rebolt on the mount/busing, and then see if you can get the end bolt off?
Hope this helps.
PS - That 19mm bar is awesome. With all my suspension work I have already done(GC's, Koni's, Ingalls, DC front strut/rear tie bar) I wasn't too sure how much of an improvement this would be. It is a dramatic difference.

Weird.
I'de try what 0100010 mentioned, but with some wood acting as a wedge. Just wedge some wood in to keep the bolt in place. That might work.
Wait! I have an idea! You probably lifted your car all the way when you tried to unbolt that bolt, right? If the sway bar puts stress on that part when the car is lowered, then just try to unbolt it when the car is on the ground. Then raise the car to take the bolt out. That might work if the sway bar puts enough stress on that part.
Also, all of these large bolts really need an impact wrench to take off. That is the correct tool for the job. I'll be getting an air compressor and an impact wrench in not too long. Should be fun!

hey 0100010, thanks for the respond man.
yeah I'm going to try that.. I was thinking about it but it doesn't look like there's too much space for me to grip that collar tightly...
I'm not sure if pressure has anything to do with it... because the bolt I have trouble with, is the first one I tried... although maybe it is, since I think I loosen the bracket and bolt on that side too... mine is the left side too... that is, left from the rear. (driver's side)
anyhow, this sucks. I wont sell the bar though, I'll get that thing on even if I have to buy a new endlink.
grey: I have tried both ways.. it didn't really work. I thought about it since the sway bar did put a lot of pressure on, but it wasn't enough, since its not exactly gripping on the bolt, not enough friction between them to keep the bolt steady...
I'll try the needle vise grip though. lets hope that work. I'll try to get some oil or soemthign too, because when I bought new nuts to try to put it on that bolt, it didn't go far before the bolt started turning too... the whole thread on the bolt seems to be rusted out...
