STOCK vs VTEC ???
Hi there guys
I know what the stock engine on the 2001 (2) Civic are SOHC not DOHC. Is there a way for me to convert my regular stock engine to a DOHC? or should I just buy another engine? Is there other differences other that the DOHC? What Egines might fit my car?
Thanks

Nope there's no way to make a SOHC engine a DOHC engine...and as to buying another engine therotically its possible to put the RSX 2.0 in our cars...you'd need to dish out the $$money$$ and i dont think it's been attempted yet.
PSSST...guys, over here: Linky link

The only difference is another HALF of an engine.. I think Hasport had already done this conversion, do a search under K20
No you can't turn a SOHC into a DOHC. As far as an engine swap the engines you can put into the 7th Gen Civic are the Integra Type R years 2000+(if you want to import it over here/expensive), the RSX only problem there is the engine turns the opposite direction so you would also need to get the ECU, tranny, axles. The CRV is built on a Civic platform and has a 2.4 liter DOHc (all this engine is, is a stroked out RSX enigine) the only problem there is the same as the RSX it turns the opposite way and I think it is AWD which may cause some other problems you would have to look into that one. Or once again if you want to import obviously the Civic Type R will fit and theoretically the SI engine should fit.
but remember - one problem about engine swaps is that if the engine is older than the chassis, it's illegal to swap it in. (not sure if this applies everywhere) so putting a 1999 SI (or even a 1998 ITR) engine in a 2k2 civic isnt a particularly good idea

The 99 won't fit in the chasis of the 7th gen civic nor would the 98. The engines that will fit in the 7th gen civic are all 2001 and newer. Since the redesign from the 6th to the 7th gen there is a much smaller engine bay which means the 6th gen (which had an oversized engine bay in my opinion) will not fit in the new smaller engine bay.

never heard that before. As far as I know in Cali it doesn't matter what engine you put in as long as you have all the documentation.
The dog told me to do it

Man it scares me when I read some of the posts on this site..."Uhhh... What is a VTec and do I need it? Maybe I should get turbo instead? What is turbo anyway? What kind of HP do I get from some under car lights? what do you guys think? I'm sitting on my mom's credit card, and I just can't find a good way to spend the max limit...."
If you don't know what the difference between SOHC and DOHC is, then why would you consider getting an engine swap? You wouldn't even know what you were getting except for what you read in some mag or on a website...
Anyway, here's a link to "Cams" (As in Single Overhead Cam)...
Cams
BTW... I'll make sure to watch out if I run into the "HAVOC RACING TEAM" ... Those guys know their sh*t!
