Engine wash: Now power fluctuation.
So I made sure the engine was cold, covered the intake, degreased and hosed it all down. Now my engine is fluctuating as if it's running on 3 and then 4 cylinders, no check engine light. I had this problem on my trip to Sacramento in the winter. I would go through the fog and the car would loose power. Then out of the fog it would regain power. Now you would guess it is an exposed electrical connector, but how do I go about troubleshooting that? The only thing I can think of is to spray each connector with a water bottle.
Is there anything else that can cause this? I've been running STP fuel cleaner through it, so maybe it's a fuel injector that's clogging and unclogging? (doubtful)

Re: Engine wash: Now power fluctuation.
How do I check for arcing? Car in the garage with lights off? I keep hearing this like bearing type sound when I depress the gas, but I wonder if it's electrical because there's nothing wrong with my transmission bearings.
My car works better now that it's dry, but when I make a left hand turn, it hiccups like it wants to die or misses a spark. Probably the connections under the intake... I'll keep troubleshooting.

Re: Engine wash: Now power fluctuation.
pull the wires and use an air compressor to blow out any water that may be sitting on top of the spark plugs, this is what happens to me most of the time.
Re: Engine wash: Now power fluctuation.
No water should be getting in around the spark plugs. The top of the coil should be sealed well enough to keep water out, unless your going absolutely crazy with water on the valve cover. Worth a shot checking though.

The previous problem is gone but now it feels like weak spark. Engine runs smooth though. I just love troubleshooting electrical...
And yeah I did spray the alternator.
