d17a2 02 ex cat eliminate?
im rebuilding the top end on my 02 ex because of a broken timing belt. no damage to the pistons or rods so im replacing the head and belts and all that ****. stock cam too.
im thinking of getting a header from ebay with down pipe and eliminating the cat.
my question is how can i eliminate the cat without throwing codes?
any tips will help....

O2 simulator on the post-cat o2 sensor. Search for "spark plug non-fouler" or "mechanical o2 simulator"

I failed emissions for a p0420 code and I figured that a non-fouler trick will end that issue. However, if I do this, what kind of potential performance issues am I looking at?

Sorry can't answer your question though man.. You failed emissions in WA? I thought there were no emissions laws.. or maybe that was just kitsap county..

yeah but the car is reg'd in IL so I have to do it to renew there, so that was why I derailed the OP. (King County, Kirkland to be exact)

oh yea.. king county requires emissions testing.. move to kitsap county 
When I was stationed in bremerton with my car registered in NV, there was another form I filled out that said I was stationed in a county that didn't require emissions testing.. but you're in king county so emissions sucks either way..
