windshield frosts over on inside

I have a 2004 honda civic. On very cold days, when my car sits outside at work,my windshield frosts over on the inside. When I come out from work,I have to let the car run atleast 5 minutes and go back inside until it gets warm enough for me to get back in and turn on the defrost so I have atleast a little hole to see through. Is it normal for the windshield to frost over on the inside with nobody in the car?It only happens when it is 5 above or lower.

When you're on your way to work, the last 1/4 mile open the window an inch or two, and turn the heat down a bit. This should fix you're problem. It gets close to 30 below regularly here in the winter and this is a needed step.

That's some cold weather! Where are you from? I don't know if that's normal, but I doubt it since shouldn't all windows be frozen on the inside, not just the front? Could indicate a leak in the seal. Talk to your insurance company about a new windshield. They will say you need to pay a deductable, but if you call one of the windshield replacement places they mention, (or one of your own) you can ask them if they will waive the deductable. They will say yes, or pick a different one. I've never had to pay for a window, that includes the rear.

Re: windshield frosts over on inside

try cleaning the inside of the window. alot of times it develops a hazy film from plastic fumes and makes it easier for frost to form.

Check your trunk for leaks or standing water, chances are you have humidity building up in your car and it is freezing.

Thanks for the answers.I will try to roll down the window a little and when it warms up clean the inside window.I will try that first before going for a new windshield.

Do you get your floot mats wet from snow as you step into the car? Try putting old newspapers on the floor and putting them over the snow/water you bring into the car when you get out. You should also use rubber floor mats in winter.

I sometimes get ice on the inside of the windshield as well on cold days (approx. -30C or colder). The angle of the windshield makes it impossible to scrape. I just wait for the car to warm up.

Perfectly fine. I'm from Canada and it can get pretty damn cold this happens to me on a regular basis. Parking it in a garage is your best bet.(Haven't got a igloo big enough, nor do i want my pet polar bear sleeping in the cold!)
