have issues when cold

have 99' ex 5 speed with vtec. other morning started car but choke did not kick on. let it warm up for a few and left. ran rough and stalled as soon as i let off gas. i also could not get it to rev past a little over 3500 rpm. would just bounce back until shifted. drove down interstate about 15 miles and even after it got to norm running temp it still would not go over 3500. it also continued to stall when i stopped. had to run into store for about 15 min. and when i returned it ran fine. has anyone ever heard of this happening before and how did u resolve it? thanks

Re: have issues when cold

I don't really understand what you mean by choke. Fuel injected cars don't have a choke. Your civic, being a 99, should be fuel injected. If you elaborate I might be able to help you.

when its cold out and you first start your vehicle, it should rev above idle. mine would not that morning until i came back out of store. i understand what a choke is and know that it is on carberators. not sure what fuel injection uses though it is prob controlled by computer info from air temp sensor. but still not sure what caty has to do with vehicle not idleing high to warm car up quicker, and if caty was clogged why did it run fine shortly after

Re: have issues when cold

Start by cleaning your throttle body, is it blowing white smoke? Do you have a check engine light on? The reason that it might be a cat is because your having revving issues, and the rough idle could be a dirty throttle body. Cat can be tempermental sometimes, cars are just strange.
