1998 Honda Transmission Number Location?

1998 Honda Transmission Number Location? Can someone tell me me if the VIN number is the automatic transmission number? That's what the metal tag on it (trans) says... There is also a bar code tag with numbers. I need to replace it and it's now setting on the garage floor out of the car! Thanks guys & gals... It's a 1998 Civic 4dr with 1.6 litre non VTech engine

Any auto transmission for a D-series engine should fit if I am not mistaken. Check, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_D_engine#D16Y8 and here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_C...xth_generation). Vtec or not it is still the same tranny. Cheers.
